"I went to Sierra Vista for mental health issues and left worse than when I came because of all the trauma I faced here. Staff does not care about you or your well-being at all. The hospital will keep you longer just to make more money."

"Some pros: some of the social workers seemed pretty involved, and some of the nurses were considerate. the food was alright, better than the ER food i had Altogether it was pretty horrible. A social worker named Stan kept insisting no one likes depressed people, asked a bunch of personal questions in group settings. Complained to nurses about more vocal/more obviously insane people (even though its his job to not treat us like animals.) He told me I was rationalizing my feelings when I said it was hard for me to give myself the positive affirmations he recommended, because they were things like "I am perfect" and "I am beautiful." My reason was that it makes me manic, so I have to praise myself in other ways. I have to deal with highs and lows since I might have bpd or bipolar, so I have to reassure myself in other ways. The bed was basically just a wooden solid box with a thin mat. My roommate was ignored most of the time despite her being mentally handicapped so I cleaned up for her to the best of my ability. The doctors (both gen medical and psychiatrists) there didnt have time to talk to people, a lot of people were put on too many meds or the wrong meds. I am allergic to prozac but the doctor insisted I stay on a high dose. He accused me of not getting better, even though I said the hospital just wasnt helping me. I said I missed my family once, and he added more days to my stay. I was only let go once I insisted on legal action. He also laughed at me once when I said I felt better because he didnt believe it. I have a stern resting face, but I went to every group meeting and I socialized with most of the patients. Most of the patients were kind people that shouldn't have been treated the way they were. One woman forgot to shower one day, and her stay was extended. I've heard people saying they're trying to milk peoples insurance. Even kids were made to stay for unnecessarily long times. Not a great place but most mental facilities arent"

"Difficult, seeing all the one star reviews period I've been there twice and both times were overall good. The first time, they kind of rushed me on changing my medication. But were helpful and communication and therapy. They didn't rush me into going to groups or getting out of my room. I was allowed to take my time in that. My second trip there was exactly what I needed to get better. I had a great doctor that listened to my concerns and while a little aggressive on the med changes, He was exactly right and I haven't felt better. Like with any mental health facility, There are always staff that love their job and staff at hate their job. At sierra vista there are many different units. I think the experience depends on which unit you end up on. And all the concerns about injections a.k.a. booty juice, They only give that if you're combative. Overall, If you stick to what you're supposed to be doing and not fight it , the easier the situation is. As for the food. While tasty comma it may give you booty runs."

"I was recently discharged from this facility, and I got to say this was probably the WORST mental health place I have ever been to. From when I got there, to the very end. Starting with the fact I wasn't even able to have the proper shower stuff for at least the first few days when I was there, not to mention how inconsiderate how most of the staff were to me personally, and that they didn't even listen to me or take me seriously. Alongside that, the doctor didn't even really listen to what I had to say I feel like, especially about the symptoms I was feeling personally. I was given medications that I said directly didn't even work and that I needed something else, and was frankly ignored throughout the whole visit. ON TOP OF THAT, they also lost my legal property being my literal Wallet, and my Cell-Phone. I am not pleased at all with the way this place is run, and honestly I still haven't heard any updates about any of my lost items. I am furious, and I would not recommend this place to ANYONE who's trying to get the proper care to feel better about themselves."

"This is a parent of an adolescent who was admitted to Sierra Vista a few years ago. My child has PTSD and was in crisis when taken here. This facility should not be allowed to operate and should be closed down. My child is female and was taken into a room and asked to strip down with ONLY a male nurse in the room. Then after 4 days in the hospital I received a call from a nurse to inform me that my daughter had fallen while out in the yard and scratched her face and broke her glasses. I asked how she had fallen, and the nurse said she had fallen because of the restraining vest she was wearing. I had no idea she had been placed in one and didn't even know what that was. The nurse explained it's a cushioned vest that has no sleeves and goes down past her knees to keep her safe. She had no clothes underneath this vest, and it apparently restricts their movement, yet they had her out running in it. I asked why she was in the vest and why wasn't I made aware of it. The nurse said because of "the attempt" TWO DAYS PRIOR. This terrified and shocked me because I had NEVER been contacted about an attempt. The nurse then became flustered as I began demanding to know exactly what happened, and why I was not notified. I was put on hold! Another nurse then came on tried to back pedal and blame it on whomever was on shift at the time but still could not tell me why I wasn't called. I told them to get my daughter on the phone immediately. When she came on, she was hysterically sobbing and asking me to help get her out of the vest. She said she was freezing in it, that the arm holes are big and other kids can see her body and when they go to sleep she only has that vest and nothing else to keep her warm. I again spoke to a nurse and demanded she be taken out of the vest and they told me the doctor is the only one who can do that, so I said to get him on the phone then. He told me he would have it removed and said all he knew about her "attempt" was what he had been told but that she had not been taken to a hospital to be medically checked out after this supposed attempt. My daughter doesn't have any memory of what happened and says all she remembers is sitting on her bed and the next thing she remembers is being on the floor in the shower with a nurse trying to pick her up and asking her what happened and that she had blood running from her nose. They told her she made an attempt but she has no recollection of it. I find it odd that they would say that has happened and say she was bleeding yet they didn't transport her to a medical hospital to be examined and DID NOT CALL HER PARENT to tell me what happened. She said she felt woozy and her memory of it is hazy. She feels they may have given her something. She told me they give these shots they refer to as "booty juice" like they are handing out candy. She said she witnessed another adolescent given this shot because she was developmentally disabled, scared and kept crying, so they gave it to her so she would sleep and be quiet. No child should be given any medication without a parents approval or knowledge. I was able to get her released from this horrifying facility and will celebrate the day it hopefully gets closed down for good. This facility is only there for profit and cares nothing about the patients it admits. Kaiser Permanente filters patients into this place like they are getting a kickback from them. The mental healthcare for adolescents is despicable in this country and our children with trauma deserve better. I plan to report this to DHS and whatever other government agencies I can and also plan to consult an attorney to file a formal lawsuit against this facility. My child deserved better and Sierra Vista and Kaiser Permanente failed her."
