MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa

"This hotel was nice but definitely not worth the money. We could have stayed somewhere more peaceful, with better views and better service. I'm really upset we chose this hotel for my parent's anniversary celebration. We booked two nicer level rooms, one Garden Shower Guest Room (around $660/night without tax) and one Garden Shower Suite ($768/night). Grand total was around 7k for 4 nights and 4 people. NOT WORTH IT!! Not even close. Both rooms were on the ground floor, had courtyards and outdoor showers. The suite was larger had a larger courtyard and a nice wall in closet, double vanities and makeup area. But for the most part they were quite similar. PROS: The rooms have nice decor and the gardens and landscaping are very pretty. The pool and hot tub were lovely even in the autumn weather we managed to have a swim. The gym is great it's very clean has a nice selection of equipment and cool cucumber towelettes. It felt very luxe. We also enjoyed the free yoga class. The bar is cozy and has excellent food and drinks. We enjoyed a couple of meals in the bar. The beds are super comfortable, and the bedding is really soft and luxurious. Unfortunately the lower rooms are quite noisy due to the construction and the upstairs noise (the insulation in the rooms is quite bad) so sleeping wasn't as ideal as it could have been. CONS: Inconsistent! The key term here is that everything was inconsistent, from the food, to the room service, to the turn down service. Nothing about the hotel was excellent or consistently good which you 100% expect at this price point. Sometimes they did turn down and gave you treats sometimes they didn't, sometimes they brought your room service order correctly and within a decent time frame and sometimes they didn't. The food in the restaurant and small grab and go cafe was consistent... Consistently bad. Construction. There was construction next to the hotel that the hotel did not warn us about. The surrounding area is not very peaceful or pretty. Bad service. The employees are poorly trained and seem to be confused most of the time. Some of the front desk staff were just plain rude. I saw someone else complaining to management about the service when I was checked in, I thought she was being dramatic but now I am not surprised... The spa services are really poor quality. I had a masseuse that ranted about his weird political views, stomped around the room and had a really strange slopppy massage style. I would not go back. Note: My sister also didn't have a good experience at the spa."

"My husband and I did one of the wedding packages at MacArthur Place, and I’m very happy with our decision. It was late September and the weather was perfect. We LOVED our room. It doesn’t feel like a hotel room because it’s so upscale and luxurious. Our room had a fire place with a nice seating area and it was very easy to start a fire. There was a big soaking tub with a little satchel of lavender and bath salts. We loved the robes. They provide the Dyson hair dryers. They spoiled us with a bottle of champagne, snacks, macarons, and nuts. There was a big BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers for us, which we actually ended up displaying at our wedding. One of the best features is you can send texts to ask questions and get things delivered to your room. The service is so fast and satisfying. For example we used it for: -we needed to print our vows. They brought them to us in a nice folder -We ordered breakfast room service -We had a fork, some water, and another fire log delivered at like 1130 at night. Unfortunately the spa was still being renovated when we stayed there but we still got a couples massage that was great. My husband said it may have been one of the best massages he’s had. For our wedding we served food from the hotel's restaurant, Layla. We heard positive things all around about the food, but in particular our guests loved the appetizers. The location is great because you can easily walk to the downtown area of Sonoma with lots of shops and restaurants. There's plenty of parking around but they have valet as well. Thinking about staying at any other hotel now we find ourselves comparing it to MacArthur and it makes it so difficult. We look forward to going back for our anniversaries and especially now with the pool and spa open."

"Had a great experience on my Birthday! On a spontaneous decision, we decided to make reservations. California residents get a discount, so we decided to stay in the Julia Suite. Upon arrival, valet is complimentary, and when checking in, they offer a glass of champagne. They have done a great job remodeling the rooms. It's unbelievable that the Victorian home we stayed in was built in the 1800s. Our room was great perfectly located with a large outdoor patio. I love the heated bathroom floors. To my surprise, the pool was still open, and their pool is heated. We spent some time at the bar. The bartender was great. The bartender recommended some drinks that he just created they were delicious. The following morning, I went to the spa. I got a hot stone message it was so relaxing! Prefect way to start my day. I recommended spending some time at MacArthur Place. We will be back."

"I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and commend Management for the exceptional work you are doing at MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa. The level of service provided by every member of your staff was truly remarkable. Initially, we had intended on staying at the Four Seasons, but we decided to deviate from our usual booking routine and explore other properties, including MacArthur Place. The welcoming and accommodating nature of your front staff instantly captured our attention, compelling us to stay for one night, with the possibility of extending our stay for a second night. While my girlfriend had work commitments in Napa, I opted to stay back and catch up on some much-needed sleep, which resulted in me sleeping past breakfast hours. However, the outside concierge was kind enough to suggest that I take one of the bicycles and explore the local cafes and wineries, setting the tone for a wonderful day. As a business owner who understands the significance of hiring the right people, I must commend you on the caliber of your team. Hugo and his colleague from Nepal were undoubtedly the highlights of our stay. They were friendly, intelligent, and engaging conversationalists, going above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. Their recommendation to experience the spa and indulge in a massage was nothing short of extraordinary. My only regret is not booking our stay for a week from now when the pool and gym facilities would have been open. "MacArthur Place is one of those special types of hotel. You come in with high expectations and they seem to exceed them at every turn. Our experience began before we stepped foot on property. Kevin Virgo the Hotel Manager was amazing in dealing with an issue that we had (no fault of the hotel). He was professional and great at communicating. Upon check in, we were offered drinks and upgraded to one of the suites with an outdoor shower and tub. While the pool area was under construction, we didn’t miss it as we were out and about during the day. The property is also a perfect walking distance away from downtown Sonoma - enough to walk off your meal but close enough that it was the logical choice. Sad to say we are our last breakfast at the restaurant on site - it was the best meal of our trip. Wish we would have eaten there more often. Also - the coffee shop hit the spot for a morning pick me up. All in all, one of our best experiences and we will definitely be back."
