Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve

"Nice scenic road. There is a nice contrast between the forest and and sky, hence the name. The road is two-way and a bit narrow so be mindful and careful. Lot's of sport bike riders and cyclist carving the roads on the weekends and holidays, so watch out! Once you get to the preserve there are a few places to hike and mountain bike. There is wildlife so be at the lookout. Lastly, keep in mind cellular service may be limited or unavailable. If you are looking for an escape from the city hustle this place comes highly recommend."

"Been to the open space location multiple times. Nice hiking, not too strenuous, but more than a nature walk on most trails. I often hike in from the neighboring Russian Ridge Open Space."

"I spent the early afternoon hiking from the Nature Center out to and around the Horseshoe Lake Loop. I had spent the later part of the morning at the Russian Ridge preserve. The parking lot between them provided great access to both parks. There was plenty of free parking at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. I began after finishing my hike in Russian Ridge and wandering over to the David C Daniels Nature Center. There were two nice volunteers there that offered their time and knowledge. There was a fun game there for kids to guess the local wild life. I left and looped around the Alpine pond. It was a pretty walk with plenty of vegetation and some cover. On the other side I encountered several wild Turkey. I continued on along the Ipiwa trail which takes you to a beautiful overview of the canyon with the Santa Cruz mountains as a back drop. Onward I trekked to the Horseshoe Lake which had a beautiful loop trail to circumnavigate the lake. There was all kinds of birds and vegetation. Afterwards I came across several huge parking lots with plenty of extra space for parking if the Russian Ridge parking lot was full. I returned back via the Sunny Jim trail. Don't forget to bring some sun screen or a hat for the exposed parts. Enjoy the trails and don't forget to say Hi to your fellow travelers. I am grateful for the preservation of all this Open Space. "Great trails that were well maintained and easy to follow. You get a mix of shade and sunshine while meandering around the small lake. You can easily get two or three easy hiking miles and don't have to worry about poison ivy or anything due to the trails being so clear. The park has plenty of parking spots and a bathroom, but no running water."

"Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve is a lovely preserve with the beautiful Horseshoe Lake within. There is ample parking and the Horseshoe Trail is very pretty and beautiful. We were able to see lots of birds and flowers while walking around on the Horseshoe Lake Trail. We also went over the Tree Ridge Trail, which has a bit of an incline while going up and is pretty narrow while coming down. Will definitely visit again to hike in other trails in the preserve. A good preserve to visit with the family."
