"I made more progress with Supertonic Guitar than I probably would have in decades elsewhere. Ryan teaches guitar holistically. You won't just learn how to play a few popular songs. You'll gain a much deeper understanding of how guitars work, which will allow you to do anything you want with your instrument. The only negative is that if you jam with friends they might get jealous of your understanding of chords, keys, and music theory while they can barely understand online tabs. (this really happened once)"
"Ryan and Supertonic are great! I lost most of the function in my right hand several years ago and gave up the guitar and writing songs. As I progressed with my hand I decided I'd give guitar a shot after many years without touching one. Ryan worked with me to get comfortable with my picking hand again I was really able to start taking off. Class instruction has been great and I've never felt any judgement from instructors or other students. It is a nurturing environment and great for building courage in your playing. Personally I struggled with self-confidence in many areas of life as I became very self-conscious about my hand shaking uncontrollably for so long. Learning to play with courage and confidence has carried over and I so appreciate the improvement in my daily life. The teaching is great, the coaching and encouragement are a game-changer! It's a lot more fun than therapy, too!"
"I rarely, if ever, write reviews online. I am doing this because Ryan is that awesome! I started from knowing nothing about guitar playing - it was on my bucket list for many years and I was a bit nervous on how to start learning how to play the guitar. Ryan was very encouraging and patient with me. He would help me on my hand placements. Sometimes the hand/finger adjustments seem so small/slight, but it can greatly impact the guitar tone/sound. If I picked up some bad habits along the way, Ryan would give me feedback to adjust. If Ryan saw things were too easy for me, he would help increase the difficulty or ask me to try new things, so I can continue to grow as a guitar player. Before I started this journey with Ryan, I had thought about learning from online/youtube videos. I'm so glad I didn't. Getting personalized feedback from a passionate and encouraging instructor, like Ryan, was so important for my personal growth and he made it fun to learn! After a full year with Ryan, I can now play several songs with ease. It has been so rewarding to play music that I loved and grew up with. I agree with a fellow student that Ryan's jams are a blast, as we would learn new songs and play together!"
"I originally found Supertonic while trying to find someone in Nashville/Franklin that would teach me how to play punk and grunge (hard to find in a country music town). I have been taking classes now for a little over a year and have definitely seen an improvement in my skills. Ryan is a great teacher and a super nice guy. He not only helps with whatever music you are trying to learn but he also teaches the fundamentals of music and guitar, helping develop student's skills as a musician overall. (of course he teaches all genres, so if you're into country he can teach that too) :)"
"I have been taking guitar lessons with Ryan at Supertonic Guitar for about four months and I can say that my guitar playing and understanding has improved dramatically. I originally took lessons many years ago for about two years and was frustrated at not knowing what I should practice. The instructor did not have a real plan, and basically the teacher was showing me what they wanted to teach me and not what I wanted to learn. I was frustrated and stopped playing for about 20 years. I have learned more about the guitar, how to play it, and music theory in the past four months than in the previous years of lessons that I had paid for. Ryan has taken the kind of music I want to learn how to play into his lesson plan for me and it makes it much more fun to learn, it motivates me to play and I come out of just about every lesson with new knowledge and I am eager to apply it and practice it. In the past, I would just play a couple times a week when I felt like it; now I look forward to practicing every day and getting better and getting closer to accomplishing my goals as a guitar player. I highly recommend Ryan and Supertonic Guitar if you have any interest at all in learning guitar. He will help you to improve and learn in a structured way that will make it fun and challenging. The jam nights that Supertonic offers are so much fun and I learn so much by playing with other guitarists. They are great for building camaraderie and confidence. Karl Richert"
