"Gentle Dentistry READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS. I have been a patient at Gentle Dentistry for 2 1/2 years. I was aware of all of the reviews citing upselling and inflated prices for work. I wasn't very concerned since I had an HMO and the office is contracted to a certain price and co-pay for the patient. Because of these reviews I put off having work done because I simply did not trust them. I had one crown done by them in 2021, the remainder of my visits were for cleanings and those at best were mediocre. They constantly cancelled my appointments because they had no hygienist, at one point putting my appt off for almost 2 months because it was the end of the year and other patients wanted to use their benefits before the end of the year even though my appt was made 3 months prior. I guess some patients are more important than others who already had an appt. Well yesterday against my better judgment i went to the office for a crown. When during Dr Pedram's prepping for my crown said I needed a root canal. She said she could do it instead of me going back to the endodontist who had performed my root canal on the same tooth different side of my mouth in Nov of 2021. At that visit my co-pay was $300.00. Dr Pedram charged me $950.00 for the root canal yesterday. $650.00 more than what my insurance deternmines my co-pay is. She added 4 additional codes that were not explained to me and still have not been explained to me despite an additional call to MYRA their insurance person to inquire what this was for. Why she thinks she can charge $650.00 more than a specialist means she must think pretty highly of herself. She was unprofessional as was her Insurance person who seems not to undertstand how HMO's work. The drs office told me: 1) they dont get paid by my insurance company. One phone call to my insurance company confirmed that was a lie. 2) they told me my plan was a discount plan not dental insurance, again another lie. 3) They told me I don't understand how my insurance works. I can assure you I do and showed them the claim from my 2021 root canal. I paid $300 and my insurance co paid the Dr $417. Also, my insurance co told me they are opening an investgation and that this Dr. has not filed any claims for any dental work I have had for the last 2 1/2 years against the terms of their contract. Dr Pedram stood there in front of patients refusing to listen to what I was saying. I was there over 5 hours while she worked on other patients. I was tired hadn't eaten all day and she mistakenly injected the numbing into the nerve of my tooth which caused a considerable amount of pain that had me in tears. She told me I saw the estimate . This is meaningless since it is not Dr Pedram who determines what my out of pocket is but my insurance co. She is contracted to adhere to their fee schedule and my co-pay amount. I should have gone with my first instinct which was to change dentists. I would stay far away from this office."
