Harumama Ramen + Buns (Ocean Beach)

"Went for the very first time with my friend to try out their famous character buns. They tasted amazing. I forgot what each flavor of bun is consisted of but the menu is very quick and straight to the point on the detailed description on what you are ordering. What I do remember js the Unicorn ube. It tasted like a cinnamon churro! I have never had ube before so having that as my first experience of tasting ube was fantastic. I am craving more and will be heading back soon again."

"Great ramen place with surprisingly good takeout. They separate the noodles from the broth so that way if your driver (we used door dash) takes a while it’s still pretty fresh when you combine it. Would also recommend the spicy tuna crispy rice app, this was very good and almost as good as a sushi place. Best ramen we’ve had in San Diego but can’t speak to the atmosphere of the restaurant"

"Stopped for a quick bite at an odd hour in the afternoon and was highly satisfied! We got one of their poke bowls and a couple of different rolls. Super fresh and layered with different flavors all perfectly balanced. Love the crispiness of the onions matched with the creamy avocado, the freshness of the raw salmon sitting on deliciously lukewarm rice . The place is spacious, airy and elegantly contemporary. Their service fast and courteous. Highly recommended."

"Service was excellent. Atmosphere was pleasant, the aesthetic was pleasing. The atmosphere could benefit from some JPop/KPop being added to the mix, but Katy Perry was fine. Food was a mixed bag. The veggie potstickers were awesome, as was the cucumber noodle salad, but the ramen was rather underwhelming (not a ton of flavor in the broth, one was listed as a spicy item and had no heat to it). However, their specialty buns were magnificent (nutella and strawberry buns)! Better than OB noodle house, but far from the better ramen places in the San Diego area."

"Saw the cute pictures on Yelp and had to come by and see how it was. We stopped by with our dogs after hitting the dog beach since we saw other reviews mention dogs - we were a little worried because we saw a sign on the front that said only service dogs allowed, but the servers said they're allowed in the patio in the back. The patio is super cute and we were so grateful they let our dogs come in and gave them water! Our server was super attentive and nice. It wasn't crowded at all for a Saturday lunch.

We knew coming in that the cute buns might be more for the aesthetic than the taste, but the pork buns were really disappointing. They were obviously not fresh since the inside was low-key still frozen, and even if it wasn't still cold to the touch, the filling was pretty bland. The puppy custard buns were a lot better and heated all the way through, but for almost $9, we expected more. Our server noticed that we didn't touch the pork buns and comped it right away when we told him it was still cold, which we're grateful for! 1/5 for pork bun, 4/5 for puppy bun.

The fat duck ramen was decent - the noodles and veggie had great texture and flavor, but the duck chashu was over cooked and bland - 3.5/5

California roll was solid - 4/5

The baked red dragon was unlike other baked salmon rolls I have ever tried before. The salmon topping was chopped super finely, almost the same texture as the imitation crab, which I personally didn't like - 2/5 

All in all, the dishes are presented really well and make for some good pictures, and the service is great. Unfortunately, the food this time for our visit was just mediocre."
