Tulsi Indian Eatery (Westwood)

"We are regulars at Tulsi Westwood - which is a short 2 min walk away from the kids apartment. For a chain Indian place the dosa here is GREAT. Hit and miss experience at the one in Westwood and DTLA .. but 5 stars for when they hit it!! Taste is great as with the condiments and price is reasonable. Mary the manager at Westwood Tulsi is so amiable and provides great service and leadership to her staff. Times it’s gone wrong - 1. when it’s busy because dosa making is a task that has a time window. So NOT for very large groups especially at DTLA location. But Westwood location can handle 2-3 dosa at a time. One time dosa was thick and NOT thin and crispy .. but credit to manager .. they kept making them until they got it right … likely batter issue on that day.. for me that attention to customer service deserves 5 stars. Apart from that one time dosa is consistently SPOT on .. never fails to please - or they will redo it.. If you haven’t had South Indian food before this is a Superb eatery in Westwood / WLA to get initiated. My recommendation to the uninitiated is the Butter Masala Dosa … for $11 and $3 lassi to wash it down. My only other feedback to the owners is to open at 10:00 am so South Indians can come for a delicious savory breakfast / brunch …"

"I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tulsi Indian Eatery, and I must say it was a truly remarkable experience. "We had literally worst experience here. It’s a Indian vegetarian restaurant. They offer wide range of menu. Visited with a group of 7. We ordered aloo paratha, tulsi special masala dosa, uttapam, veg thali, vadapav, veg noodles. Their service was super slow even though it was not crowded at all. Uttapam was not cooked properly. Dosa was crispy and tasted ok. We all liked veg thali. Thali had 1samosa, 2/3 veggie, sweet, some rice and rotis. However it came after really long wait. Also, they missed to put a bowl of sweet in our thali and when we informed them their manager came at table to check all the empty bowls. I’d definitely not recommend this restaurant."

"We ordered the family special which allows you to select two types of rice 3 curries and 2 types of roti. While the food was reasonably priced and the ambiance was pretty good, the service was very slow. We also added an extra side of rice, roti and lassi and it took close to half an hour to get them all. There is a fancy robot to serve the food, but it takes a long time for them to even load the items on the robot while they’re sitting ready on the shelves. Quite disappointed with the pace of the service."

"Pretty good vegetarian Indian food. They have options from the north, west, and south, of India. I have been here twice so far, with my parents. And we have tried the chair, coffee, special masala dosa, chili garlic fried rice, dabeli, and the loaded fries. Parents loved the masala chai. I thought the coffee was pretty close to what you get in South India. Maybe the best version of Madras coffee I've had in LA so far. The special masala dosa was good, but the coconut chutney that it comes with wasn't. Tomato chutney was good though. The chili garlic fried rice tasted okay, but didn't stand out. Felt like it would taste better with some dish, like the Manchurian. The dabeli was good! I read in another review that the chat items are good. I have to try a few others next time around. The loaded fries are very meh, I'd entirely skip. The fries are very soggy and the makhni sauce didn't have enough butter flavor. Overall, would recommend checking it out. But read reviews to find out what to order and what to skip."
