Alvarado On Main - Oldtown Salinas

"We've been going here since day one. Beer and cocktails 5 stars all day, they make some of the best beer around. Atmosphere 5 stars. Food.. Well depends when you go. They continue to change the menu, and I'm OK with that but they take away the good items, so frustrating. I feel the price point on food for a city like Salinas and it's resistants seems to high, especially when you are doing lunch. We are not Carmel. But I get it, gotta pay that rent and staff... And then there's the staff. I swear no one likes working here. It's not the worst experiences I've had but a smile and acknowledge we're sitting there would go a long way, expect for the hostesses, they are all friendly and do smile."

"This place is just fantastic. The atmosphere is decently casual enough to walk in in whatever but the layout of the place looks top-tier while not forgetting the original roots of the building. The staff was all extremely pleasant and attentive. The food was out of this world. The fried broccoli app is crazy good and the smash burger puts chains to shame. Love this place and seeing it in downtown Salinas!"

"I had the Alvarado burger with fries. Overall the burger was just ok. Even though it was cooked properly to my order, the burger wasn't satisfying. Also the fries lacked crispiness and became more soggy if not eaten right away. I had a Mai Tai PA which I did enjoy. This is a place to get a beer. But I would recommend going somewhere else to get a burger. Their other location at the Alvarado Street Brewery in Monterey does a great job with their burgers as well as offering a bigger menu."

"Big place with a big bar. Alvarado Street on Main is definitely a classed up place (building was a bank a long time ago, then a high-end restaurant). As you would expect, plenty of beers on tap. A little bummed that they only give you 11 oz pours for higher ABV beers (16 oz for others) yet both are same price. Calamari and Shishito peppers good but felt like some of the calamari could have been cooked a little longer. I had the Moroccan Grilled Chicken. It was just OK. Didn't seem any different from a regular grilled chicken sandy and there wasn't a lot of meat. Fries were great. Wife had Grilled Squash Sandwich. She really liked it. She had the garlic fries...after tasting I decided I'll be getting those next time!"

"You can clear see that a lot of thought and care went into making this place both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The food was great, the ambiance was great, the staff made great food and drink recommendations and the drinks were 10/10! The cocktails here are really good! We didn’t have a reservation and they told us it was a 30 minute wait but we were actually seated in 10 minutes which we greatly appreciated! Would recommend the crispy cauliflower as a starter. On the sweeter side but my entire group really enjoyed it!"
