"Honestly some of the best dim sum I have had in the South Bay. I recommend their Chicken Feet, Egg Tarts, Suckling Pig, Chow Fun, and Gai Lan. Very traditional style and good quality all around. Flavored very well! Service is quick and fast. They still have cart ladies that come to every table too :) The dessert here is really top notch!! DEFINITELY order the egg tarts and custard buns! Incredible. They also had various jellies like mango, osmanthus, coconut, etc. The one dish that fell short for me is IRONICALLY my favorite dim sum item (normally): Shrimp Cheung Fan. This dish is supposed to have succulent shrimp wrapped in rice noodles and soaked in sweet soy sauce. However, the shrimp HERE was overcooked and the noodle had an odd texture. Very mediocre."
"The capacity is big, the service is slow. A lot of time when the carts arrive to our table, there are only a few items left for us to choose. A full menu is not provided for us to order neither. Only a paper with some special items on it that you can mark and give to the servers if you can find one and have their attention. When we finished and were ready to leave, we couldn’t get any server’s attention for about 15 minutes. So we had to get up , went to one of them, pointed to our table and told her that we were ready to checkout. If the food were amazing, the sluggish service could have been forgiven. The food is actually only mediocre. Not bad, but not impressive neither. The pig custard buns are cute, but taste dry. The osmanthus jelly is too sweet and has no osmanthus flavor at all. The daikon rice cake is not soft enough . The duck meat inside Peking duck sesame scones are too dry. The Chinese broccoli is too soft. The rest is just ok. The bill comes with a service charge of 18% applied already, and has an extra field for extra tip! So the tip you entered will be on top of 18% that you have already given. Just be aware!"
"I’m a rather picky eater, and came to this one specifically before Grand Dynasty moved to West San Jose (talk about when Vallco was still open and there was still a lot of space left). The food was honestly meh to okay — here’s my take on this restaurant post-pandemic: Food: 3/5 The portions of these dishes got significantly smaller compared to the last time I went when they were last open in Cupertino. This time, we got the BBQ platter with pork and marinated ranch chicken, giant clam, marinated duck tongue, seafood pan fried noodles, satay dungness crab vermicelli, and mixed vegetables. The broth of the duck tongues was a little bland, and the bbq platter was a little too small — I was hoping for a bigger portion honestly. The seafood pan fried noodle wasn’t even seasoned enough, and the sautéed vegetables had too much garlic in them. The crab vermicelli had too much satay in them and it overcarried the smell of the crab, which made it almost overly impossible to finish. The only thing I thought was good was the dessert — Service: 2/5 Barely any communication. For a typical Chinese/dim sum restaurant, they’re not really gonna talk to you all that much unless you need something. However, the service we got showed absolute unprofessionalism — they took my plate without even asking me first and I was still in the middle of finishing my portion…. like please do better. Atmosphere: 4/5 The only thing that I thought was quite well was how spacious it was — considering before they opened, it was a Rite Aid with really dark lighting. I seemed to be impressed with the overall design of the place, and honestly, I give them props because it looks brand new and it looks so much better than the old Grand Dynasty before they closed in Cupertino. I’d come here for more social events and weddings, but not for a regular dinner. What throws me off is the fact that they include an 18% auto-gratuity charge… which is insane honestly. I don’t even know if it’s legal at this point, but I’m only going to come here once in a while."
"Overall, the food was ok. Nothing great just ok/good. The venue itself is so grand that it’s a fun place to look at while eating! Seems like a fun place for a special occasion. It’s worth a try if you’re in the area! Here are some reasons for not giving it 5 stars: 1. I will say, in my opinion, most dishes lacked flavor. A little on the bland side. That’s why I think this place is just ok. I will admit I didn’t order many dishes so perhaps the dishes I ordered weren’t that great? I was hoping for it to be amazing like a lot of dim sum/ Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, but it just wasn’t that. For example, the general’s tso chicken flavor was wrong, the whole dish was wrong. Tasted more like sweet and sour pork? The potstickers lacked flavor, too. Maybe missing salt? The flavor of the sweet and sour pork was pretty good I will say, but the meat itself was all really fatty. Most pieces were probably 90% fat and 10% meat. 2. I went for dinner, so I was hoping my entrees would all come out together. But instead, each dish came out 8-10 mins apart. So although the waitress brought my generals chicken, I waited about 10 min for my other dishes and rice. By the time the rice came, my chicken got cold."
"They provide a large spacious dining area in the main dining hall. We were in the private room and also has great privacy and large dining space too. Great service and good quality of seafood. Although some dishes seem to be little too salty, overall dining experience here is great. Especially for large group gathering party with young kids. Dining in the private room without worrying about kids to bother other people or running away from the table. King crab it’s yummy with three different dishes from steam, salt and pepper to steam egg."
