Black Bear Diner

"Edited 3/9/24 Black Bear had us back for 4 comped meals and I don't know if they had a different person cooking but the food was fantastic! We ordered the same meals we had previously and this time they were made perfectly. My mother in laws steak was cooked correctly this time and had the correct dressing on it. The baked potatoes were soft and delicious with plenty of butter and sour cream. And the veggies were tender like they should be. Thank you for fixing our complaint. We will definitely be back. Went for dinner last night with my husband, mother in law and daughter. Came out from Watsonville which was a waste. Us 3 adults ordered the 10 oz flank steak (?) special. The waitress asked how we wanted it cooked. My mother in law does NOT like her meat rare so she asked for WELL DONE. My hubby and I wanted medium rare. They also ordered a baked potato with the entree. The waitress came over to let us know she put our order to cook but that she had them "do all the steaks the same"... I was worried about mine being overcooked but I should have been more concerned about how raw my mother in laws was. So bloody she said it was still mooing and only ate 2 bites. The baked potato was so NOT baked it was hard and inedible. I asked if they did cheesy broccoli but instead of just saying no it wasn't an option, the put shredded cheese on the top and I'm guessing microwaved it. Either way, it was not a pleasant meal. Definitely won't be back and don't recommend for dinner."

"This chain is one of our favorites. When you sign up for the rewards, you get a free breakfast just for signing up and then another one on your birthday. The food is typically tasty and with good portion size. The decor is consistent throughout the chain, and the music from the jukebox is varied and upbeat. Just wish they would put a restaurant in Big Bear, California!"

"Let me start by saying I was at the restaurant around 7am. The service I experienced was actually extremely amazing. My server Olga was extremely polite, and tentative to me as a customer. She answered any questions I had with a smile on her face and with a positive attitude. The food had a nice presentation and tasted great too. I had something that was new to me, it was Eggs Benedict, but with chicken fried steak instead of Canadian Bacon. The combination made for a flavor bomb with each bite. The hollandaise sauce was a little broken visually, but still tasted great. Biscuits and gravy were super solid and the biscuits are huge. The Potatoes where cooked nicely, but the vegetables in the Country Potatoes could have cooked for a bit longer. They still had the raw taste of a vegetable instead of a grilled or sautéed taste. I will definitely be visiting again in the future, highly recommend."

"I had the Spicy Sausage Omelet and it was delicious. I wasn't expecting the onions, bell peppers, and topped off with homemade chili sauce on top. But I'll tell you... it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. My waitress was also prefect."
