Costco Wholesale

"To start, we LOVE Costco. We have 4 teenage children so Costco is a staple in our lives. The low rating has to do with the quality of this Costco in particular. We moved to Marin 7 years ago from Encinitas so our benchmark is the Costco in Carlsbad, which is one of the best out there. Issue we have with this Costco is the availability of healthier choices is minimal - from Mary's crackers no longer being available, to blueberries constantly being out of stock, to the lack of availability of good eggs. This unfortunately brings my rating down to a C+/B-."

"My experiences at the Costco Novato location have been terrible. As me and my 2 children walked in today I had my Costco card out but noticed no one going in was being stopped and decided to put it back in my bag. As we walked in alongside a crowd of Caucasian people, Paula yelled in our direction and singled me out asking for my card. I asked Paula why she chose to stop me and not anyone else(as there was several other white people walking by), she proceeded to lie to my face in a very defensive and rude tone and say "everyone gets checked". Another older white women who was standing next me was frightened by Paula's yelling and believed she was speaking to her instead of me. As the women attempted to pull out her wallet, Paula stopped her and said she was fine and waved her on. Paula then turned toward me and pointed me out in front of everyone yelling I could not come in until I showed her my card. My children were frightened and uncomfortable, Paula completely belittled and humiliated not only myself but my 8 year old daughter and 9 year old son in front of everyone in that store. The only other people who were stopped during our visit today were people of color! When employees are "randomly" stopping people and 100% of the people they stop are people of color, it is not random it is RACIST. After reading other reviews, I see Paula is not the only racist employee at this store. Customers should not be made to feel unwelcome ESPECIALLY when you have to pay to be a member! I am so disappointed in this location. My son was upset and asked why we were stopped while everyone else walked by; our experience at this Costco was the first time I had to explain to my child that he had been racially profiled."

"So much to love about this Costco. But there are things NOT to love also PRO: - The wine selection! I believe it's the biggest at any Costco - Easy off the highway - Best tax rate in the Bay area - Better selection (Marin county is $$) CON: - No gas. No gas. NO GAS STATION - Very busy mall - Difficult to find parking SUMMARY: Much to like about this Costco. But the lack of gas here means you either go towards SF or towards Rohnert - not ideal if you are on the go. You can get unique selections due to the area. The wine is the best I've seen at any Costco. I found special ice wine from Canada, that's amazing. The selection of the California wines here is amazing due to the proximity to Sonoma & Napa."

"The pharmacy tech, Lisa bowled me over with her professionalism and patience. She called and navigated through 2 phone trees to help me resolve my issue. I knew I made the right move when I changed from CVS to Costco. Also, there was a young girl with glasses in the women's clothing who waded through piles to assist in finding me the size I needed. The best Costco ever!"

"Costco offers great value with its bulk products and competitive prices. Their membership system can be a drawback, but it pays off through savings. The variety of goods, from groceries to electronics, is impressive. Customer service can be hit or miss, but overall, it's a worthwhile shopping destination."
