About the Business

Monell's At the Manor

Monell's At the Manor is a historic institution located at 1400 Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, Tennessee. This restaurant offers traditional Southern cuisine, with their famous Skillet Fried Chicken served every day of the year. The menu includes a variety of meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, and drinks, all served family-style. Prices do not include the Tennessee sales tax, and children under 3 eat for free.

The building, known as Colemere Mansion, was originally built in 1898 by Colonel E.W. Cole, a former Confederate officer. The mansion has a rich history, hosting many distinguished guests and extravagant social events. After being destroyed by fire in 1929, a new mansion was built in the Southern Colonial style, inspired by Arlington Mansion in Natchez, Mississippi. Over the years, the mansion has served as a private men's club and a seafood buffet restaurant, before being leased and renovated by Monell's founder and owner, Michael King.

Today, Monell's at the Manor offers not only delicious Southern food but also serves as a venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners, and other special events. The beautifully restored interior and historic charm make it a unique and memorable dining experience in Nashville.

"Everything was awesome! Fried Chicken, Biscuits and Gravy, and Peach Cobbler were my favorite. Too much food for everyone at our table! Hate that it’s closing March 31, 2024"

"I would have sworn my mom, my grandma and great grandmother were all back in the kitchen. The food is served family style and if you have less than enough guests to fill a large table, you are seated with other diners to truly experience family dining. The food is plentiful and delicious and if you leave here hungry, something is wrong. Must haves?? Skillet fried chicken, greens and corn pudding. It's a damn shame their last day of operations is Easter Sunday 2024 at this location. The city owns the property and is razing the location to expand the neighboring runways at the airport. We were only in town for 3 days, but ate here twice. Thank you for the wonderful experience and best wishes on contiuing the Monell's tradition at a new location."

"What a terrific place! I had a craving for catfish and Monell's came through! I asked a coworker to go with me and to my surprise, they seat you at large family-style tables. They bring out the dishes and everyone passes them around. You can get as much as you want! It was all really delicious and I love the banana pudding!"

"Monell's was one of the neatest experiences. It was the southern hospitality version of dim sum... southern food rather than Chinese food. The waiter brings as much as you can eat of the various dishes they're serving and you pass it around the table like Thanksgiving dinner. It includes fried chicken, some kind of corn concoction, collard greens, green beans, stuffed shells, cornbread, biscuits and gravy, mashed potatoes and gravy, cheese grits, cucumber salad, coleslaw, and banana bread pudding. Also on the table when we arrived was already lemonade, sweet and regular tea, and water. All that for just under $21 a person! The building is an old house and you eat in a living room/dining room that's still decorated like the good old days. It's perfect for large groups. We had 15 in our party. And there are at least two good photo opportunities - one outside and one near the beautiful staircase with a hanging chandelier."
