About Us

The Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis Program at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a comprehensive and modern approach to understanding microbes and the diseases they cause. The program emphasizes laboratory research, supported by coursework, journal clubs, and seminars. Faculty members from both the Medical and Danforth campuses at WashU are involved in cutting-edge research in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and biophysics related to environmental sensing, cell-cell signaling, regulation of gene expression, energy generation, and the bacterial cell cycle.
Students in the MMMP program have the opportunity to take a variety of courses in molecular microbiology, pathogenesis, immunobiology, biological imaging, genomics, genetics, and more. They also participate in laboratory rotations before selecting a thesis lab. Graduates of the program go on to pursue careers in academia, industry, government, and other fields.
The program is led by Faculty Co-Directors Christina Stallings, PhD, and Megan Baldridge, MD, PhD. The Roy and Diana Vagelos Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences provides a highly interactive and collaborative environment for students to excel in their research and training.
