"I have had several primary care physicians since I came to Texas in1989. I actually have never had difficulty with any one of themor actually left their practices. However, in having Dr. Phu Truong as my PCP has been a most rewarding experience. No provider has ever shown more empathy in my care. I deeply care for him and his well-chosen staff. He has been with me through becoming an elderly woman now and never wavered in his genuine interest in promoting my health as we worked together in dealing with my simultaneous care by sub-specialists in cardiology. pulmonology, gastroenterology, and my psychiatrist whom I've known for many years. I am open about my long history of anxiety and depression in spite of my practicing nursing for 35 years before retirement. He has clearly appreciated my wealth of knowledge as an RN, BSN, MS from Illinois as he has always been in the role of my primary caregiver. "My father was taken to HEB ER on a Sunday morning with severe knee pain. They took blood work, claimed it showed nothing , the doctor on duty "assessed" his knee and diagnosed the pain as just severe arthritis, but they wanted him to see his Primary Care doctor to check high kidney level that had shown up in blood work. We made an appt for the following Tuesday with Dr. Truong for the "kidney" issue. At that time my dad was telling the doctor about his knee pain so Dr. Truong started looking at it and feeling around the knee cap (dad had a knee replacement many years ago) and became very concerned. He called the orthopedic surgeon who had done the original knee replacement and we were sent right over to his office where they drained fluid from the knee. It was Sepsis...he was sent directly over to Texas Southwest Ortho Surgery Center and had surgery the next day. He had developed a "staph" infection around the metal in the knee cap and the infection had already spread into his blood stream and urine. IF Dr. Truong had NOT taken the time to listen to my dad's complaints about the severe knee pain he was experiencing things could have gone have taken an entirely different turn of events. He was hospitalized at Baylor from January 8th until January 24th and in rehab until March 1st. A "pic line" was put in and my father was given strong antibiotics for 6 straight weeks. Dr. Truong was fabulous and I am so grateful for the attention he gave and the concern he showed for my father!!!"
