About the Business

Penguin and Puffin Coast is a unique and exciting institution located at 1 Government Drive in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. This zoo is home to four different species of penguins and two types of puffins, all living in a chilly habitat surrounded by rocky cliffs and frigid water. Opened in 2003, Penguin and Puffin Coast was the first open-air penguin habitat of its kind in North America, featuring specialized lighting that mimics the animals' natural environments in the wild.

One of the main attractions at Penguin and Puffin Coast is Humboldt Haven, an outdoor habitat for Humboldt penguins complete with a stunning 22-foot waterfall and nesting chambers. The cove also includes spacious habitats for king penguins, gentoo penguins, and rockhopper penguins.

In addition to penguins and puffins, visitors to Penguin and Puffin Coast can also see other animals such as grizzly bears, gorillas, and chimpanzees. Guests can enjoy a ride on the Conservation Carousel, take a trip on the Zooline Railroad, and explore gift shops and eateries during their visit. With its diverse array of animals and exciting attractions, Penguin and Puffin Coast is a must-visit destination for animal lovers of all ages.

"First off, the entire Zoo is phenomenal. With the focus of the Penguin & Puffin area, it is a blast! We went on a Saturday in early February. The zoo was busy, but not crazy. There was a line, as usual, but it was it's always a short wait. While outside, there is a landscaped pool where Penguins are playing & fun to watch. Inside, you walk through a cave, into a fridgid experience where the Penguins are playing. There is an above level glass where you can watch the Penguins swim. Above, the Penguins are squaking, flapping wings and hanging out. The ceiling simulates an arctic sky which is cool.. literally! The exhibit exits to a landscaped walkway into the a Puffin & Penguin themed gift shop. The shop is cool & fun family browsing. Definitely check this out while at the zoo!"

"The Penguin House is phenomenal! You can get so close to these beautiful creatures. Watching them waddle and swim around is just so pleasing. It is very cold inside so be prepared, but I assure you it is absolutely worth it! Please do not touch the penguins."

"I don't think the folks who visit the St. Louis Zoo realize how lucky they are to be able to see penguins and puffins up close. I never thought I would get to see them up close but now I have. You can get within inches of the penguins and puffins (of course you cannot touch them). They are so adorable and inquisitive. One stared at me right in the face. The children visiting were just mesmerized by these amazing birds. The was the best exhibit in the zoo."
