About the Business

Baptist Bible Translators Institute

The Baptist Bible Translators Institute, located at 1664 John Roth Road, Bowie, Texas, United States, offers nine months of specialized training for individuals looking to work in the field of missionary work. The institute also hosts a three-day missions-focused retreat for high school and college age youth.

One of the key focuses of the institute is helping missionaries learn how to speak a new language without a distracting accent. Through courses such as Articulatory Phonetics, students learn how to identify and reproduce the sounds of human speech accurately. Other linguistic courses include Morphology, Syntax, and Phonemics, which help missionaries understand how different languages form words, sentences, and alphabets.

In addition to language training, the institute also offers courses in Cultural Anthropology, teaching students how to study and understand different cultures. This knowledge is crucial for effective communication and spreading the Gospel in a foreign land.

The Principles of Bible Translation course equips missionaries with the skills needed to accurately translate the Bible into different languages, ensuring that the message remains clear and true to the original text. Even if a missionary's target language already has a Bible, knowing how to translate effectively is still essential for daily communication.

Overall, the Baptist Bible Translators Institute provides missionaries with the specialized training they need to succeed in their field of service, whether they are working with written or unwritten languages. Join us in making a difference and bringing the message of the Bible to those who have not had the opportunity to read it in their own language.

"MY young family trained at BBTI in 2000-2001. We have been serving in Tanzania Africa now since 2004 and I Still think of things I learned while I Was there as I visit villages and encounter many different tribal languages, drink milk from a split gourd in a thatched roof hut in the harsh sub-Saharan bush land. Back then I thought about how long the course was...now I wish they were longer. If you are thinking of attending...stop thinking about it and do it. Think about the whole of your carrier and not just the immediate."

"BBTI is one of those rare schools which give practical, hands on training for the mission field. From culture to linguistics to translation, this school has an excellent compact training course for missionaries. We attended in the '13-'14 school year and learned so much. A must attend school for those serious serving long term on the mission field."

"We highly recommend BBTI to all missionaries!! This 9 month training program is very helpful and challenging. We attended in 2014/15 and are so excited to implement the things we learned there in Gabon, Africa! The majority of the staff are veteran missionaries and are very knowledgeable. At BBTI, you will receive practical, hands on training in Linguistics, Cultural Anthropology, and Bible Translation. Your time there will also be very beneficial to your spiritual growth, as you learn to trust God more and to work with other people. Missionaries, please pray and consider attending BBTI as part of your preparation for the field."

"I attended BBTI during the school year of 2014-2015 as a single young lady. I loved every minute of it. You learn so much while you are there. Not only do you experience language training, but you learn practical deputation principles and church planting skills. It is KJV only, a Godly dress code is expected, and the staff are some of the best spiritual counselors you can find. Each staff member has experience on the field and they love to share what they have learned. If you choose to attend BBTI please DO NOT expect a 5 star hotel treatment. This is about missionary training and believe me, it's not always pretty. You will find that things may not be to your liking or what you are used to. But remember, you're not going to the field for yourself. You're going to reach a lost and dieing people who need the Lord. Although BBTI may not have the best of the best, they are loving and kind. Everyday they serve those who come through and they strive to show as much hospitality as possible. God is blessing BBTI and I am happy to say that I will be returning. I am now married and expecting my first baby and my husband has surrendered to be a missionary to the Navajo Indians. My husband will be attending the school for training. I'm so happy to be going again and I hope that every missionary would consider attending BBTI."

"An amazing school. It changed my life, and my views on missions and God. Not only was the practical training more necessary and helpful than I could have ever imagined, but there was so much more spiritual growth than I could have thought as well. Cultural Anthropology didn't just teach me about cultures. It forced me to think and know what the bare Gospel truly is and how it can be given clearly from culture to culture. Bible Translation class taught me things about God's word that I had been too ignorant or afraid to consider. The close fellowship with other missionaries for 9 months gave me wisdom, knowledge, and sweet memories. And now I also have prayerful, helpful friends scattered all around the world in their places of ministry. I advise every missionary to come here. But the least one can do is pray for the staff here as they do a profound work in the lives of the students."
