Lake Travis Counseling Connection

"Beware!!! First off I thought I’d be seeing Jan Shope. You won’t be. The reviews below me are 3-7 years old. Jan won’t be your therapist. Which no one tells you until they sign you up for therapy. I wasn’t informed until I got an email from some random person that a this person would be the therapist and not Jan. It would be a random person named Hope. That’s fine. I had no issues with that. But, Miriam the one to handle the insurance…She filed it under the insurance and became hostile when I simply questioned why I had not been charged. Well turned out the reason I had not been charged is because she’d sent it to the wrong insurance (Miriam had). I have Aetna she sent it to BCBS. I told the therapist Hope and she sorta just diverted and defended Miriam. That she was the only person handling insurance. I am not financially at a place where I can just be charged random amounts. I said if I’d have to interact with Miriam who was hostile towards me on emails, this I did not want to continue. But Hope lured me into doing more sessions. And online. Which I told her originally I did not want to peruse. They pretend it’s clear how they explained how charging me works but it actually isn’t clear. And I doubt it’s clear for many others who go here. I did not feel supported by these people due to these actions taken. I was also charged for sessions by Miriam that I never attended, the same ones Hope said she would wave. It’s like they don’t even communicate or it appears that way. Back to the online sessions I did not actually want…I explained to her I wanted an in person therapist and because I told her i don’t think this was working driving this far she pushed me to just do online. Then charged me when I could not figure out how to log on or figure out how to reach a therapist I did not trust at all. She stated “it’s policy” when I told her I would not be persuading a professional relationship with her. It all felt very “I gotcha”. And not like a therapist supporting you. I feel scammed by these people. And to top it off there is no number to reach Miriam at and she is impossible to get ahold of through anything but email. When she does reply it’s not in the nicest nor the most professional manner. Just not what you want in a therapist and their office management. And another reason I don’t seek out therapy. This seems to be a model a lot of them use and it’s honestly not something that works out well for anyone I know. Anyways this experience only added stress to my life and I wish I’d never gone to this place. That is all."

"My wife went to one of the counselor there for about three months. Excellent experience. The down side. They charge an extra $40 surcharge for insurance billing. Apparently their staffing cost is several hundred $$ per hour to bill insurance. (A 40% surcharge over what's billed to insurance) Sadly, my wife cannot utilise their services any longer."
