Hickory Log Restaurant

"We had a group of 13 people and had I read the reviews before deciding to try this restaurant, we would have gone elsewhere. As a whole, no one in the group felt like they were welcome. The waitress had an attitude every time she came to our table. It was clear she didn’t want to be serving us. I got the ribeye with a bake potato and side salad. My food was pretty good and I have zero complaints about it. My son ordered onions rings that he said tasted horrible. They were passed around the table and the feeling was mutual amongst everyone. No one ate them. Once the waitress brought everyone their ticket, I handed mine back to her with my card. However, my card was never brought back to me so I mentioned it to the gentleman standing behind the cash register. He was extremely polite and said he would go get it. He came back with the book that had my receipt in it and told me I needed to sign it. My total was $35 and some change. I applied a $10 tip bringing my total to $45 and some change. Now by this point the young cashier behind the register was finishing my checkout. So I waited for her to finish and then mentioned to her that my card was not in the book with my receipt. At this point, no one knew where my card was. Well ended up they had given my card to my sister after taking it to a completely different table. Now mind you while I had no complaints about my food in particular the service was horrible. Now, I believe the price on my receipt is for the food I ordered and received no matter whether it was good or bad. The tip on the other hand is about the quality of service I received while dining in. I have never not left a tip no matter how poor the service was. As I walked away from the register there was an older lady that was reaching for my ticket and ask the younger cashier if I left a tip for my waitress. First and foremost if the waitress was concerned about her tip she should have applied herself more to her job. And again, I will never not tip but what I choose to tip will be based solely on the service I receive. Just because you wait on a table doesn’t mean you’re entitled to a tip. Smile every once in a while. Act like you appreciate your job and you’re not just there for a paycheck. We will not be back and there is no way I would recommend this restaurant to anyone."

"As I travel for work, I try to frequent local establishments as much as I can. The parking lot was full on a weekday at lunch so I figured this must be the spot. My server was quick and to the point which I like. I ordered ribs, barbecued baked beans, and a baked potato. The portions were very large, the beans were very flavorful and seasoned well, and the ribs were outstanding. The highlight for me was the homemade barbecue sauce, which I bought a 1 gallon jug to go."

"This is about the warmest group of restauranteurs I've ever had the pleasure to patronize. And it starts with the owner. We travel back and forth from Illinois to Hot Springs and always stay in Dexter so we can eat at the Hickory Log. Ribs are marvelous. Service is great. My hubby appreciates the generous tubs of butter.(he hates those little foil pats!)"

"Very cozy environment with friendly staff to make you feel at home. Must say the Rib salad, mesquite chicken rolls, and sirloin were melt in your mouth delicious. Even though we went right at closing time we didn’t feel rushed and the food and service was still great. The Christmas decor is beautiful and great for family pictures."

"Driving through, saw the decorations on the outside decided to stop. Excellent decor inside, service was excellent. Ribs were a little tough for me but given that we are in the south, it might be the way they are served here. The owner as friendly. Great to see the spirit of the season expressed in this way."
