"I work in the Evanston area and I sometimes buy groceries from the Jewel on Chicago avenue. I’ve noticed I’m followed by a white male working that sometimes works in the stand by the self check out. Today while I was checking out at the self check , he rushes from the stand , stands a foot from me while I’m checking out and paying with my credit. As I take my receipt he brushes by me. For me this is a clear cut example of racial profiling and intimidation. I will be contacting the corporate office concerning my experience."

"Store selection is good. One of the few places that sells Grits in 5 pound bags. Unfortunately, there are constantly people begging outside the store. In fact today one such person spat towards me in the middle of an unintelligble rant even though I had not spoken a single word to him. Very discouraging!"

"80 per cent of the staff look like they hate their job every second of their time there, and when asked for help, irritability and impatience is obvious. Outside of this, it's a good store with nice deals and decent selection. Great experience, as long as you don't have to interact with the staff"

"Cashier in a yellow jacket told me to take my 2 items to the self-checkout line. No visible nametag. The line number was illuminated, and there was no line at the register. He just didn't want to get up from his phone."

"I know that this Jewel-Osco gets a lot of stick, but that seems unfair. The only time I had a negative experience was when they rearranged their aisles. I felt like I had Alzheimer's as I wandered around getting re-oriented. That said, it's good to walk into a produce section that features its organic selection first. The produce is almost always in great shape (bananas are notoriously hard to keep green) and are re-stocked quickly. The deli was a good selection of cuts, and they're happy to give you a sample or two to get the cut right. Everything else is as it should be - its produce section may not rival Valli, but it's better than TJ, and its frozen section is much larger than Valli's."
