About the Business

Lavergne's Tavern is a cozy bar and restaurant located at 6546 Windsor Avenue in Berwyn, Illinois. Opened in 2016, it is housed in the former Garv's Inn location, a beloved spot in the community since the 1960s. The interior features restored tin ceilings, hardwood floors, and a rebuilt bar made from reclaimed black walnut.

Executive Chef Mark Downing leads the kitchen, offering a menu of elevated yet approachable dishes. From shareable appetizers priced at $6-$9 to entrees around $14-$16, there is something for everyone. One must-try item is the Italian Beef Egg Roll, a unique and delicious creation.

Owned and operated by brothers Jerry and Jorge Hernandez, Lavergne's Tavern is a place for beer enthusiasts. With twenty taps featuring local craft beers, a selection of wines, and handcrafted cocktails, there is something for every palate. The Hernandez brothers also own Warren's Ale House in Wheaton and Ellyn's Tap in Glen Ellyn, both known for their craft beer selections.

For Jerry, Lavergne's Tavern is more than just a business venture - it is a return to his roots in Berwyn. He aims to create a welcoming space that the neighborhood can be proud of, where families and friends can gather for a memorable dining experience.

"Amazing environment, food and service. All staff are ready but just want to shout out Robert! Beyond a server he shows himself to be a friend! All love for this place! Check it out. You will not be disappointed!"

"Robert took care of our large group and handled it so well! He was attentive, he made sure to check in, he had all the right recommendations and never stopped smiling. Food came out quickly too!"

"Went in on a rainy raucous Friday night. It's was definitely busy but we were able to walk in and get a table for 6. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and they had many tasty and interesting food combinations. I feel it was a bit too long of a wait to order drinks and even longer to order food. I ended up getting a drink I asked about but didn't want because it was to loud for him to hear me say "I'll think about it" Food itself was pretty good. The Italian beef egg rolls to me were a genius idea but just lacked the punch of giardinera and didn't even feel or taste any of the cheese. Very generous size and beef portion though. Burger had pretty good flavor, but out fries were all so small and limp. They were left unfinished. The kids meal did have a nice touch with the apple sauce and lollipop."

"I really wanted to like this place as it is close to home, and my neighbors talk it up. My husband and I are not drinkers. We were there for the food. There are restaurants with bars and taverns with food; this is definitely in the latter. It's even in the name. I can not do spicy food. It is a party in my mouth but gets to my stomach, and I feel it for 8 to 10 hours. I told our waitress right up front, nothing spicier then ketchup. We ordered the fried Cauliflower and the dipping sauce was very spicy. It took 10 minutes to get any server to come by for us to request ketchup. We ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and the Keto bowl with grilled chicken. Both were very tasty. This time, the waitress warned me about the sauces as she had the kitchen put them on the side, and I appreciate that. The indoor dining room is noisy, all hard surfaces and multiple TVs playing, although I could not tell if the volume was even on as the room noise was so loud. The patio is very pleasant and would be my choice if the weather was agreeable. Finally, we had gift cards. We asked the waitress to tell us how much was on the card, and she said she couldn't without running through a sale. We had to pay for the appetizer first."
