"I have been going to the Texas Pain Institute for 3 years now. My first Doctor was Dr. Alvarez, he left for Arizona. Although Dr. Alvarez was my first pain doctor that really helped me when he left Dr. Aggrawal (the head doctor became my new pain advisor and pain doctor.) I was nervous at first, now he has also become one of my favorite pain doctors. (I have had pain doctors since 2011) I would recommend Texas Pain Institute."

"I have to say that after all the pain doctors I have seen through the years Dr. Alvarado has been the best most professional understanding and compassionate dr I have seen. He actually explains the whole situation to where you can understand the treatment he is wanting to go with. He won’t push surgery on you unless it is the last option. I’ve been seeing him for the last 5 yrs and he has done more to help control my pain including placing a spinal cord stimulator in and finally had me on the right medication to help control the pain. I also have to say that he was so very compassionate and caring when I was diagnosed with cancer and he totally would work with me if I couldn’t come in due to being so sick from the chemo he would work with me and let me come in when I was feeling good enough to come in for my follow ups. We need more drs like him but it’s sad to say he has left the TPI office and he will be surely missed. The new dr that came in isn’t as caring or understanding of my situation and is very rude and doesn’t take time to explain or even listen to your concerns on certain issues you may be having. Unfortunately now I have been forced to find a new dr due to they informed me that they do not take my insurance as of 2yrs ago but yet they’ve been seeing me with no problems until yesterday and the new staff in front were extremely rude and wouldn’t even help me with suggesting how to be able to help me in what to do to continue being able to see them, or what I could do to find a new dr. They just said you will not be seen again there and basically don’t try to go through them for anything. Nothing like feeling helpless and being thrown out to the wolves! I most definitely will not recommend this office to any of my friends that need a professional dr to help with their pain. Now I’m stuck with no pain management routine and stuck with a stimulator in my back with no chance of getting help with it anymore. Very disappointed in how fast this office has gone downhill in the last couple of months! Good luck to anyone who can actually get the help they need from them. I gave a five star rating while Dr. Alvarado was there, but now in my opinion I would give it a 2!"

"I have been a patient of Dr. Alvarado's for 3+ years (Shirley Cawyer ) (above is my husband) He has helped give my life back. He surgically implanted an intrathecal pain pump in 2019 and my quality of life has greatly improved. I am so thankful to you Dr. Alvarado. I am sorry to say I cannot give such glowing reviews of the rest of his staff. The front office is like a revolving door. Of course I have been a patient during the pandemic and that could have something to do with it. Dr could be a better communicator. I didn't understand what Drs policy on Rx refills and requests were. That could have been smoother. I don't know if he thought I knew more than I knew. I should have come to my visit prepared with all the questions and concerns I had. It has taken a while to get to the "sweet spot" with my therapy. I am sorry he is moving. Denton patients will sorely miss him."

"Dr. Alvarado and his staff are amazing, however, I had a really horrible experience with his male PA. He was argumentative, spoke aggressively as well as condescending to me. He was defensive and threatening even going so far as to tell me I need a med clinic, not their office because if I'm not willing to do a more invasive procedure such as surgery that they have every right to stop prescribing my meds. I have been on the same meds for years, and they work. I'm not taking any kind of hard core opiate, and I have never run out of meds, go to all my appointments, and am always engaged in my care. The way he treated me was despicable, and as a former nurse, not how we're tought to treat our patients...as if they were one of our own family members! It makes me wonder how he treats the elderly that come in and can't stand up for themselves or even know the right questions to ask! Because of my medical knowledge, and previous experience with pain management and this office specifically, I was able to call him on some of the things he told me, and I've refused to see him in the future. He talks a good game, but he's rude, disrespectful, and clearly in the WRONG career!"

"Dr. Alvarado is the greatest!! Very nice, friendly, warm and inviting. He actually listens if you have concerns/problems and really advocates for his patients and not just a pill pusher. The front office staff is also great. They are very friendly and helpful. If you have a schedule change or billing questions, they'll find you an answer before you leave the office. Seriously the greatest doctor's office."
