"Keep all your receipts! Make sure you aren't paying for things twice! I have a receipt for my copay, they cannot seem to remove it from my bill. Billing issue after billing issue with these people! Been on the phone waiting to talk to someone AGAIN for 30 minutes. They can't tell me where I am in the que or how long my wait is going to be. Isn't this the 21st century? If you can't answer customer calls in a reasonable amount of time then you need to hire more customer service representatives! My overall experience with UMC is terrible. Not happy at all with the level of care they claim to have!"
"My experience at UMC was a complete 180 from what I would have described decades ago that forever embedded less than stellar thoughts about the hospital. My opinion now has changed. UMC provided the best maternity care, safe administration of epidural, and safe, minimally painless cesarean surgery. All the nurses, med students, doctors and staff were very attentive and provided the absolute best care for my newborn daughter and I. My circumstance was a fairly unusual one and my health record provided the medical team the scope (blueprint) of what was my medical needs and areas they needed to monitor. My baby girl was born healthy and I recovered quick (only a semi-visible C-Section scar). There were a few nurses, I wished I remembered their names, one stayed majority of the early morning to help feed my newborn and another who showed repeatedly how to swaddle the baby. It was also very nice to be served delicious food and coffee/tea every day in timely matter (then slaving over the kitchen stove). :-)"
"Went to the UMC emergency room on Sunday morning at around 1am because I was experiencing severe back pain from some work I was doing and I could hardly walk. Going to UMC for care was THE WORST decision I could have made. I saw a triage doctor/nurse pretty quickly they just asked a few questions and took notes. Also got X-rays done within the first 2 hours of being there, after that there was nothing but waiting and getting my blood pressure checked at least six times by the EMT that works the waiting room. When I arrived, the waiting room was full. As the hours passed, it started emptying out, but the wait is insane! The EMT that works in the waiting room going around checking patient’s vitals, told me that the wait has been up to 24 hours for patients at times. At 9:30 am (at this time had been waiting for 8.5 hours for care) I was very tired, uncomfortable from the back pain, and was fed up with waiting. We talked to two women who had been waiting since before I showed up and they said that they got to the UMC ER at 11pm on Saturday (they’d been waiting for 10.5 hours at this point). I decided to leave and follow up with my primary care physician on Monday for treatment, as I couldn’t wait anymore in that waiting room. If you can avoid going to UMC, I’d recommend it. Go to any other hospital if you can, unless you have 10-24 hours to wait and are okay with being constantly bothered by the rude EMT who works in the waiting room to check your blood pressure over and over again. The wait is insufferable, the public restrooms are dirty and smell awful, and there were a couple of people in there who appeared that they might be homeless and looking for a place to sleep as they had many plastic bags full of things and they just left in the morning with the hospital blankets they were using."
"If we could give 0 stars we really would. I brought my husband here per doctors orders, he told us to come to the emergency room to get surgery for my husbands broken jaw, because if they scheduled it, they are booked out for months and it’s too serious to wait. We have now been in the emergency room for 18+ hours. The only nurse who has gone to the back for us to get answers or make my husband any more comfortable is Nick, he’s a taller man with a beard. Other than that, not a single person has tried to help us. My husband has been confirmed to have a broken jaw and needs surgery and is just being left to hurt in a waiting room full of sick people. If we had a choice in hospitals this wouldn’t have even been a choice. I will never recommend this place to anyone. And honestly if you’re in real pain and expect help, go to any other hospital seriously. They told us after we had waited for 9 hours, that the typical wait is 13 hours, so we might as well wait. Well we have no other choice and we’ve now wasted 18+ hours. I have been to many other emergency rooms in El Paso, and this is not the place to go especially if you don’t HAVE TO. Seriously… please go anywhere else."
"I just was discharged after surgery and a five day stay. This is my third surgery at this hospital. The care , kindness and understanding I've received each time have been outstanding. It is a teaching hospital but don't let that make you think that the level of care will be anything but above excellent. My surgeons, doctors, anesthesiologist, nurses, CNA's right down to the cleaning staff are amazing people."
