The Campbell House Lexington, Curio Collection by Hilton

"Let me start by saying that the staff are wonderful here. They were all so nice. Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping were super friendly. The bar was great and our server was very helpful. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails after dinner. Their bourbon list is top notch! However, this is where all the good ends. This hotel was picked because their stock photos looked very nice. Once we got past the lobby area, it looked like we stepped into a scene from The Shinning. The hotel is in need of some serious updates in the common areas and also the rooms need a major upgrade. The hallway carpet was pretty dirty looking, the walls needed painting and wallpaper needs to be refreshed. The property is just old and worn. I was shocked to walk into our room and find a wall unit for heat/air, free standing dorm fridge and a microwave plopped on top of the fridge. I felt like I was at an economy value hotel, not a Hilton Curio Collection hotel. You could tell they tried to update it with decorative mirrors, fancy headboard, etc. The carpet did not appear very clean. The bathroom tub was gross. Part of the tub finish has chipped away. There was orange on the bottom of the tub and I couldn't tell if it was dirty or hard water stains. It turned out to be hardwater stains (or at least I'm hoping). There was not any storage for toiletries. The hair dryer that was in the bathroom was also gross. It had sticky stuff all over the hair dryer (assuming it was hair product). As a travel industry professional, I expect more from a Hilton and this hotel did not meet my expectations. The very kind staff made it palatable to stay for a night. I think this hotel has a lot of potential if provided a major renovation. I am actually shocked Hilton allows their name on the hotel, let alone part of their Curio collection. We will be coming back to LEX this summer but unfortunately will be staying somewhere else."

"We loved this facility! The beds were so comfortable. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the hotels history. It is right across the street from the hospital you may want some ambient noise to block the sirens."

"I'll be honest, I initially booked this hotel because there's a horse in front of it (it also helped that it was close to the venue of the event we were attending and very centrally located in Lexington). I love how historic the hotel looks and the lobby is beautiful. The room itself was fine -- there wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't awful either. I will say, when we asked the man at the front desk for restaurant recommendations -- he suggested Buffalo Wild Wings, which we thought was strange. I would have loved to hear about local places, instead of a chain restaurant we could go to anywhere in the country. It's also worth noting that the hotel is right next to a hospital, so you will hear frequent sirens."

"I'll keep this as brief as possible. I stayed here last week and had a three night stay for my University of Kentucky homecoming. The normal cost of the room is pretty darn high, but i received a decent price through our alumni association. The room was very small, paper thin walls, and pretty much zero amenities. The room was full of aesthetic issues and the air conditioner didn't work very well. All in all, I'm very disappointed I chose this hotel, but I definitely won't make the same mistake in the future."

"I did appreciate having the mobile key, so I did not have to stop at the front desk. However, that is where the pleasantries on this visit stop. The room smelled highly of chlorine. I thought potentially we might be located next to a pool. However, when looking at the hotel map, I don’t think we were. I ended up getting a headache as I am somewhat sensitive to smells. Normally this isn’t a problem but I guess it was quite heavy. The next morning when we woke up the chlorine smell had subsided however, the room then smelled of vomit. I am not sure if it was cleaned prior to us getting there from someone throwing up or what but it was horrific smelling. The towels also had a very bad odor. I could tell that the room had tried to be renovated. The drop ceiling in the bathroom seemed to be a little bit of a problem. The tiles were stained and they weren’t in place some of them being popped upwards. It just felt dirty. I usually always try to leave positive reviews as I feel that people are quick to leave bad ones and not good ones but I just can’t find anything positive. My husband also has anted to mention that the pillows were not great. They were very flat and not supportive at all. Also, I had to sleep with the light on. If you turn the light switch off next to the door, it would turn the TV off and I’d like to sleep with the TV on. So weird."
