"This is why I ride. To see, feel, and touch historical sites like this."

"When we are in Houston we return to Freedom Tree every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got married under this incredible historic tree in 2012. It's so calm and there's excellent shade to sit and have a picnic, sketch, read or sunbathe. There's a small pavilion but no playground equipment or other amenities. This is also a Texas Historic Site."

"Seeing the tree kind of makes your wonder how the people must have felt getting the news that they were free. Then to find out that they had already been freed."

"It's been an interesting experience my children and I had with the help of Professor W standing where enslaved African Americans stood as General Granger read the order letting the slaves know that they were free. Thank you Professor W!"
