Cedar Park Smiles

"Both of my kids are patients at Cedar Park Smiles. In fact, my daughter just "graduated" with her final post-braces retainer check. My son hasn't gotten his braces yet. At every step of the way, Dr. Smith has given us options and let us make the decisions we believe to be best. They take plenty of time to explain things to us every step of the way. They even have fun contests every month for prizes, and they give rewards to kids for keeping their teeth clean, etc. We love the staff there; it's really a family atmosphere!"

"We brought my daughter here based on the recommendation of her dentist and others. They are listed as in-network on our insurance website. The appointments were fine, but they of course wanted their own set of x-rays and could not use the ones that we had just paid for a week priod at the dentist. After they take all the x-rays and molds the doctor decides that if he were to try and fix my daughter's issues, it would actually probably do more harm than good. So I give the doctor acknowledgement for being honest and recommending that we NOT proceed with treatment. Obviously if he was just out to make a buck, he would have proceeded and we would have had no idea. The problem is his back office is corrupt. They charged us for the full amount claiming it would apply against our deductible. We paid it. When I get the Explanation of Benefits from Insurance, not only did the insurance pay a portion but Cedar Park Smiles has a negotiated rate that is less than what we were charged. Now we all know that if we had a balance outstanding they would be calling us non-stop for payment. But do you think they issue you a refund? No. 5 months later I call and ask why I haven't received a refund and Martha claims that it will be applied to my daughter's treatment. I told Martha to please review the file because the doctor recommended not to proceed with treatment so we will not be coming back. After several minutes of convincing her to read the chart, she finally sees that I was telling the truth and that we didn't just walk away that the doctor made the decision. She then tells me that I will only get a partial refund of my money because they are not in fact in network (they are still listed as in-network on my insurance website). I work in the medical industry, so I'm not about to go to an out of network provider when there are plenty that are in network. She then attempts to hang up on me when I ask her why she is lying and why she has held my money hostage for 5 months. She finally promises to send me the full amount. Guess which amount I got a check for, the full amount or her made up lower amount? Good doctor, crooked financial back office!"
