"Well, I’ll start with the good and end with the bad, but I would certainly not recommend Dr Coates to anyone. One Friday, I woke up with tooth pain on a molar that had been crowned, and it was very painful to the touch. I called my normal dentist, but they are primarily a kid’s dentist/ortho office and are not in on Fridays, nor are they set up for emergency care. After a few hours of trying to tolerate the pain, I went through my insurance and found an emergency dental office that could see me and headed their way. Scheduling was fast, he was super friendly, but unfortunately, he notified me that I had already gotten a root canal on the tooth in question. Dr. Coates was extremely friendly and took some x-rays and explained what was going on with the infection. He recommended I get a bridge, which, after he showed me what that was, seemed a little excessive to me, but I’m not a doctor. Due to the infection, he gave me some antibiotics and those apparently cleared up right away! No more pain, no more sensitivity. All was well… except for that due to Dr Coates recommendation, I had already paid $400 as a down payment on the bridge that he said was needed was not covered by my insurance. Now on to the bad part. I called his office just to ask him if it the bridge was still needed as I haven’t been in pain since a few days after the antibiotics. He was extremely rude over the phone and kept saying I was talking over him even though I was simply asking questions about my health. I have real bad anxiety over getting dental work done. I’ve continuously told him I don’t deal well with dental work, or mouth pain, and that I find even a crown to be extremely painful and my mouth is very sore afterwards. Dr. Coates said it would be “just a crown and root canal and it won’t hurt – and if you’d stop talking over me you would understand that…”. I said that might be true for some people, but I have had crowns and root canals done and they have all been extremely afterwards. Again, he completely downplayed the fact that people have different pain tolerances for different things. I was in the military for six years, I’m not exactly a wimp, I just have a super sensitive mouth and dental work lingers forever it seems with me. Anyways, at this point, Dr. Coates said “you know what, at this point maybe you just shouldn’t come in. You can go find someone to pay you thousands of dollars to gas you!” I never asked to be gassed – I specifically just wanted a few pills of one of the most basic prescription pain relievers – Tramadol. He refused, saying that Ibuprofen and Tylenol work better than anything! At that point I just told him “Thanks, bye” and hung up. I’ve called his office again to try and get a refund on the deposit I paid for the bridge since everything else should have been covered by insurance, but they are “looking into it”. TL;DR – Dr. Coates is a bit rude sometimes unless you agree with him that he should pull out teeth that aren’t hurting, and put crowns and root canals in without prescribing any medicine for the hell that is the following days. Still can’t get over him telling me to “just don’t come in” because I was concerned about a tooth being removed from my mouth and had questions."

"I booked him through zocdoc. He is seriously the nicest dentist I've been to. He got me in earlier than I expected. He calls to confirm his appointments himself so you feel really comfortable before you even get to the office. He really worked with me and my insurance to get the best price as well. I'm not dreading having to get the work done (and I have a lot!) He deserves more than 5 stars!"
