"It is a nice store with nice inventory. This hardware store has been in business in Del Rio for decades... however, Russel's Hardware has always been the type of store where employees are largely uppity and fake-nice and even borderline rude compared to other hardware stores. I have done a lot of shopping at Russel's in spite of the negative feelings that store often gives me, but I still have never liked that store or the vibes it gives off. What I don't understand is how they can possibly still be in business with the absurdly high prices on just about everything they sell compared to other, similar local businesses... and especially with the advent of online shopping these days. I've always though Russell's Hadware is a place for people who don't mind spending far more money than they ought to or for those who just go there out of habit or because they fit well into the fake-friendly crowd. My ultimate take is that today there are just other options in Del Rio besides Russel's Hardware, which offer far better prices, far better service and a better shopping atmosphere, including online shopping."

"The reviewer Ari Berry just sounds like an entitled parent who thinks everyone and everything should revolve around her and her kid. As per her review, her biggest complaint is that one employee didn't smile at her and didn't tolerate her kid messing with merchandise that she had NOT even purchased. It is baseline common sense not to handle in-store merchandise in a way that could damage it, and the fact that she feels so attacked by being reprimanded for her child's inexcusable behavior is a testament to her character. I'd disregard her review based on her whiny attitude alone. I'm fairly new to Del Rio and have been looking around for garden centers. Russell's seems perfectly fine and organized. The customer service I personally received was up to standard. The only thing I'd say is that the registers and some of the tech need updating. Other than that, I had a positive experience and will be returning."

"I have been a long time loyal customer of Del Rio’s True Value. Today blew me away and I will NEVER step foot into that business again. My family and I went to the store with the intent to purchase a key which ended up costing about $160, we chose to support our local True Value because it’s a place my children love to visit with their children’s items and a place where we can get home needs completed also. As I walked into the section with woman’s clothing with my two children one employee said a welcoming “hello” and her counterpart looked at me with her steaming iron in her hand, obviously way too busy to say hello back, although she made direct eye contact but decided to just look away without a word. Whatever, who cares. So I continue to do my shopping and my toddler goes to the hula hoops, which to me are INTENDED for children and starts to play with one. I smile at him and look to the woman who was too busy to say hi, but now has the time to stare at my child with a disgusted look on her face. She looks at me and says in a scolding and demeaning tone “he really shouldn’t do that, it has lights in the hula hoop”. I said back that I had the intention to purchase the $15 hula hoop and now because of her lack of customer service, or being a decent human being in general and talking to me like a fellow adult I wasn’t going to now. I got my $160 dollars back from my previous purchase and put away another $80 worth of items I was going to buy. I have never had an employee be so rude to me, let alone my child, and I will never support this store again. It makes me sad because the customer service in every other department are remarkable and make you feel so welcome, I guess in the woman’s department and children’s department I wasn’t good enough to acknowledge, and if your child touches anything then you’ll be reprimanded for it. Also, I implore you to think of the purpose and the use of a hula hoop. This CHILDRENS item is intended to spin around your body and fall to the floor. I would think if you’re going to overspend on items such as this, the customer service would be a lot better. I’ll purchase elsewhere."

"Nice people. However, their cash registers are horrible. Offer "tap and pay" that apparently only works with discover cards. When that fails offers a manual entry option for your card that never works according to the cashier and that was my experience as well. The last option is for them to enter it on the computer to which they want to charge you 2.5% "manual entry" fee after their other two payment options failed on their end.... So if you ever forget your card at home just don't even bother shopping here unless you have cash."
