Reviews
"This is one of six memorials to Lincoln in the district, this one having the distinction of being the oldest existing memorial to Lincoln in the country. This statue was paid for by the residents of DC, purportedly to convey their loyalty to the union and decrease the chances of retribution for the president being slain in their town. The largest amount of funding was provided by the owner of Ford’s theatre. The chosen sculptor was reported to be a friend of Lincoln’s, and had been present in Ford’s theatre on the night of the assassination. The statue was taken down and placed in storage in the early 1900s as the larger memorial was in the works. Veterans groups complained and the statue was fixed and placed out again. In 2006, the statue was moved again to its current location."
"A must see if you’re in the DC area. It’s very impressive up close. I loved it."
"A must see despite it being under construction, you’ll have to walk up to see. Expect crowds. Enjoy the walk down the steps and see the Washington monument and take a seat and enjoy. Street Parking if you can find, which we were lucky."
