"We have been customers for over a decade and never made a claim. When we bought our house for 290,000 I was told if anything ever happened it would be repaired and restored to like new condition - this was during covid so Rick just sent us the declarations page and made it very easy to purchase our house quickly - which was nice. He then set up a premium for 652,500 because that is how much he thought our house would cost if it were to be built brand new. A storm happens - we have hail damage on all 4 sides - branch damage on the north and south side. They send adjuster tells me there is damage primarily to the south side siding and windows. They send check - seems easy until I get the bid from contractor and find out it is only 10% of the cost to repair. When I call about this - they send a contractor who then cuts a 1ft square out of my steel siding so they can re-evaluate. They come back with still less then 10% of cost to repair. I call Rick - he says there is nothing he can do. After many calls to shelter I find out they acknowledge 350 Sg Ft damage and are estimating the cost of steel siding at less then half of its value. My contractor does not believe it is even possible to match my steel siding - and made his bid off vinyl - which is about 1/3 of the cost of steel to give a point of reference. When I asked the adjuster if he could please provide me a contractor willing to do the work for their bid - he laughed and said - we have no obligation to do that. In conclusion - Rick has always made it very easy to purchase and obtain home insurance and moves very quickly when you need him to in order to purchase a home. But when you need him to honor his agreement, or actually repair - Rick will not help and Shelter Insurance will send adjusters, contractors, and even engineers to do everything they can to not help you. They even will cut holes in your house and then not repair the damage they cause. Follow up (12/12/23) shelter hired an engineer to quote David Peterson (supervisor adjuster) “to contest the original findings from the adjuster that found hail and storm damage.” As predicted - the shelter employed engineer then filed a report to negate the original adjuster. Which to be clear means shelter will only pay 1/6 of the cost of the damage due to a storm. Pleas keep this in mind home buyers- 1/6 of the cost is not enough to even be helpful and they don’t care if the hurt your home value by damaging your property further in the name of their “investigation” I encourage you to not trust this agent or company with your anything of value. The only time you will see them is when you owe them money or when they are working hard to pay you as little as they can. Additionally - his Google reviews are misleading - look him up on the BBB website and you will see dozens more of people just like me - trying to warn others about the unethical and misleading business practices of Rick Koberstein and shelter insurance."
