"They keep building and restricting the equipment you can use out there. If the city wants to keep building maybe build some natural berms out there."

"Although Gourdneck is very close to town, don't be deterred! I have seen plenty of deer, turkey, and other critters on the prowl. I have also had decent luck catching fish in the lakes! Additionally, it's worth mentioning that I've known of people bagging large bucks here too! However, there are a few cons about this place. For one, it gets very crowded during hunting season, and many of the hunters leave a lot of trash behind. If you hunt here, please beware of the crowds, and clean up after yourself. Secondly, a lot of people dump trash alongside the paths, especially in the Schoolcraft section. If people didn't treat this place as their personal dumpster, it'd certainly be a lot better. It is wonderful that the DNR gives people in Portage access to state land, and we should cherish it."
