Red Shield Rentals

"HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Rental company/ScamArtists! I left 1 star to leave a review. I am really glad Red Shield Rentals is non- existent now. We rented 812 Pauline Blvd (Ian Greenlee is the owner) We have rented since Nov 3, 2020. Recently we found out not only did Mr. Greenlee not register Apartments with the City of Ann Arbor we have been paying for the upstairs neighbors DTE gas bill and some of the lights. We never agreed to thus. We would have never found this out had we not filed paperwork with the city of Ann Arbor due to lack of maintenance requests being filled. This property is for sale and whoever buys it will have to gut it completely and redo it. It has not been maintained at all! Love the area, but the owner of this house needs consequences!"

"My experience with Red Shield has been AWFUL. They bought my building from Beal only to transfer management back to Beal within just a few months. During the time that Red Shield handled the management, they severely neglected maintaining the building and refused to take deliberate action against a woman living in the building whose name was not even on a lease who leaves food EVERYWHERE (under the radiators, tied to pipes outside, in plastic eggs hung on the trees), sets fires in the yard, and has assaulted me when I removed the food she left around the building and yard. They didn't even know this woman's name but knew which apartment she was staying, and all they would tell me when I complained about the health and safety hazards she was creating for myself and other tenants was that they would "talk to the lease holder." Red Shield also didn't regularly clean the building so trash is EVERYWHERE. Katie, the property manager for my building was nice and responsive but as a whole, Red Shield is terrible. I don't recommend them at all. Oh and FYI, Beal Properties is taking over the management of ALL of Red Shield's properties starting on April 3rd (they are also employing some of Red Shield's property managers and maintenance workers). Just stay away from both Beal and Red Shield because they are both awful companies that take advantage of vulnerable people who have limited rental options and they are actively ruining Ypsi."

"I honestly enjoy living where I live, the rental is very reasonably priced and Mrs. Katie is very nice. My only complaint is that it can take a bit for matinence requests to be looked into, and the office rarely picks up the phone, even during open hours. I will say however, that when I leave a voice-mail, I get a call within an hour :)"

"Katie, the general manager at Red Shield, has been nothing but great. She is accommodating and understanding, and when I was having issues with old neighbors dumping trash everywhere, she took care of it. Very responsive to my concerns and replied to my emails quickly. Also provided all of the units in my building with nice big new trash cans which I really appreciated as the old ones were in pretty bad shape. I also appreciate being able to pay all my fees and rent through Venmo. The price for my unit is the most reasonable I’ve come across in the area, and I’ve had no issues with my unit itself. "I also, was hired as a contracted "new rental move in" cleaner. And I understood from the beginning that the cleaning for these units is a bit different than your typical housekeeping. The company was fair and quite timely in their payments. The maintenance team was friendly and even helpful when I encountered them. The girls in the office are outstanding and pleasant to work with. Actually, the units themselves are quite nice, I may even consider a "move" myself."
