About the Business

Richmond Woods Nature Preserve

Richmond Woods Nature Preserve is a beautiful park and tourist attraction located at 8000 North Centerline Road in Bitely, Michigan, United States. Visitors can access the preserve through a gravel parking area on the east side of Centerline Road, just north of Lincoln Street. The preserve is known for its pristine sphagnum bog and high-quality sedge meadow wetland, which are home to the American Bittern bird.

In addition to its natural features, Richmond Woods Nature Preserve also offers archery deer hunting through the Michigan DNR’s Hunting Access Program. The property is managed for sustainable timber harvest and helps protect Michigan's iconic forest and wetland habitats. The preserve was established by the Land Conservancy of West Michigan in partnership with Ducks Unlimited and the NAWCA grant program.

The history of the preserve dates back to 1910 when James Richmond purchased the property. Today, his great-grandchildren Kathleen Fleming and John Gottschalk have ensured the land remains protected as a nature preserve. The Land Conservancy of West Michigan works to conserve natural land in the region and Richmond Woods is their first nature preserve in Newaygo County. Visit the preserve to enjoy the beauty of nature and learn about the importance of conservation efforts.
