About the Business

Kalamazoo Dog Training Club

The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club, located at 6740 Quality Way in Portage, Michigan, has been offering puppy, beginning, and advanced classes since 1975. Founded in January of that year, the club was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in June 1978. With a mission to promote responsible dog ownership and good sportsmanship among members, KDTC has grown from less than 12 members to over 50. Monthly meetings are held at the Michigan Dog Center, with a Christmas party in December, a picnic in September, and an awards banquet in April. The club welcomes members of the public who share their goals and objectives. Refunds are not given after classes begin without approval from the board of directors.

"I love the trainers, they all work together with helpers and work with the ones that need a little more help to succeed. Very clean facility"

"I have taken two dogs for socialization and training to KDTC, the most recent at their newish facility off Quality Way. Their bldg is really nice, with a padded floor that makes it easy on both the dog and me. They have a fenced in grassy yard for potty breaks, and they provide poop bags, which is great. They have small class sizes, which provides an opportunity for my dog to get used to being around other dogs, but they have a no contact policy which keeps them all safe. They provided a class by class agenda with helpful tips. The trainers are all volunteers who have been training dogs of all sizes for years, if not decades, so they have very helpful ideas. Training is all positive techniques, so no punishments, which I find very effective. The dogs get a break mid class to go potty, and for beginners, no one expects perfection or that your dog will be an angel. It's realistic, personal, friendly training that works and doesn't cost a fortune."

"Supportive group and good lessons. Our puppy was a bit young compared for the other dogs but we felt very welcome. I will probably sign up for another class and would certainly recommend to friends"
