The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club, located at 6740 Quality Way in Portage, Michigan, has been offering puppy, beginning, and advanced classes since 1975. Founded in January of that year, the club was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in June 1978. With a mission to promote responsible dog ownership and good sportsmanship among members, KDTC has grown from less than 12 members to over 50. Monthly meetings are held at the Michigan Dog Center, with a Christmas party in December, a picnic in September, and an awards banquet in April. South Westnedge Dog Park is an off-leash dog park located at 9010 South Westnedge Avenue in Portage, Michigan. The park is open year-round with varying hours depending on the season. The park spans approximately 2.5 acres and features two fenced-in areas for dogs to play and socialize. One area is designated for smaller dogs under 25 pounds. Each area includes walking trails, grassy play areas, benches, shade trees, water stations, and waste stations. The park is free for anyone 16 years or older to bring their dog, as long as the dog is at least 4 months old. The park is ADA compliant with no breed restrictions. Restrooms are closed from October 31 to May 1, but additional information can be obtained by contacting Parks & Recreation.
