"The food here is worth all of the hype. For the quality, portion size, and deliciousness, it's worth every penny. In fact, it's a deal. I ordered the goat shank, which came with beans, plantains, and a creamy corn. The meat melted off the bone and the corn was out of this world. Also, the passion fruit drink is a perfect compliment to the meal."

"Flavor, family, and fair prices! "Come home and get a plate!" Is what comes to my mind when I think of Baobab. That, and my mouth starts to water. The atmosphere is always upbeat and kinetic. Great color and decor to make you feel transported. The staff is always friendly, jovial, and knowledgeable on the dishes and drinks to help you make the right decision. They also have great comradery, always laughing and chatting, which adds to the amicable atmosphere. The "fare" is all inspired by Eastern African cuisine. So, every dish has a depth and complexity of spice and flavor that sings on the palette. The mixed vegetables, with rice, and your choice of protein make it a fulfilling and warming meal that will keep you satisfied and craving more. You can pair any dish with fresh, fruity, refreshing juices or hot African tea. Either option is great and only an added benefit to the meal. In addition to the tables, there is also a counter space with excellent street views if you want to get a bite and get some work done. I love Baobab and look forward to more memories and fun times spent here."

"Absolutely amazing! Within two days I came back twice because of everything ranging from the food to the service to the vibe. I was just walking along Woodward and came across this restaurant and decided to give it a shot, and made the best decision of my entire time in Detroit. First of all, their slogan is amazing. "Detroit Ni Nyumbani" representing "Detroit Is Home" simply shows how much this establishment is a part of the city, represents the city, and embraces everyone in the city. Now the food: Each main dish consists of one type of meat (or stew or eggplant) along with a few different sides and then with either coconut rice or spiced rice pilau. Choosing the main dish eventually became a battle of choosing which type of meat, because the rest of the components on the dish was similar. I went with three friends so we ended up choosing 2-3 main dishes and then a few sides of individual meat because otherwise there would be too much rice to consume. Nyumbani was my favorite because the beef was extremely tender, and I could tell it was slow-cooked. Mbuzi was amazing as well with a large goat shank with bone attached, which ended up messy because I had to grab the bone to get all the meat, but most of it was definitely falling off the bone. Kuku tasted great by itself, and tasted even better with the mustard-onion sauce that came with the chicken. Samaki tasted amazing as well as the fish's flavor in combination with the sautéed onions was just a whole new dimension. The only thing I was sad about was that they were out of coco mango by noon already! I really wish I could have tried that one! Tamu was very sour, which could turn some off, but I loved it. I could taste everything listed on the menu: avocados, passionfruit, and chia seeds. Truly a unique and tasty creation! Overall, what can I say? It is probably one of the best restaurants I have had anywhere in the United States so far, and I am so happy that it is at a very central location Detroit that allows people to walk there after visiting a museum around the area such as the Motown Museum! If you visit Detroit for any reason, please check this place out! It is a gem!"

"Excellent place! We got the goat and the fish and both were outstanding. The goat shank was so buttery and drop off the bone tender. The spicy rice complimented it perfectly. The yellow beans were flavorful and creamy. The corn salad brought a nice freshness to the dish. The fish was delicately seasoned with just the perfect blend of spices. The coconut rice was the perfect compliment to it. The plantains were also well done, they were tender and perfectly caramelized. Totally recommend all should go and enjoy a taste of eastern African food in all its spectacular glory!"
