"It's a very small school right now (2023) and as a student in the even smaller mechatronics MAT2 program I can get some very one-on-one instruction. However, sometimes the campus feels a little bit too quiet because there are so few students living in the on campus housing. Speaking of on campus housing, their apartments are pretty nice and wheelchair accessible. That being said, if you're not in a wheelchair sometimes they feel a little bit overly roomy and there's only one bathroom. They also have housing in downtown Cadillac but I've never been there. They do give on campus students a free YMCA membership which is pretty sweet because the YMCA is only about a half mile from the on campus housing."
"The housing was mediocre at best the drywall fell off the walls doorways were cracking everything was cheaply made. Not to mention the vet tech program they try to kick people out I have medical problems and all my teachers worked well with me except for the program director she failed me because I was in the hospital and couldn’t get an assignment turned in on time I warned her in advance. Her response was I could come back in a year, I told her I couldn’t afford to do that and her response was basically ohh well. I started the program with many friends and there aren’t many people left in my cohort."
"I went to college here for quite some time it was okay it was decent I really liked some of the teachers their professors when it came to general studies the students were okay I wish college was a little cheaper too expensive I wish it was free but that's just a fantasy some of the women there are fake because I really know how to jump into a new relationship very quick I wish I would have concentrated a little harder when I came to such as a certificate or a degree I would have had a better outcome of life"
"Graduated in digital media design. Had a few great instructors.... The secretaries lost my tax documents three times.... One time they unplugged the fax machine after asking for the fax number so they could plug in a fan... I was on hold in the parking lot with the irs for like an hour. "security gaurds" why bother... I'm not sure what they really do besides stand around chit chatting and yelling at people who smoke. My car battery died and they had a complete melt down when I asked for a jump. Be prepared to also wear lipstick when you go to purchase your books... Be aware after that 800.00 book you may actually read one paragraph out of it. Introduction classes they insist you take them and try to make you second guess your ability. Just test out of that windows class or that Microsoft word class you will never need them. Be prepared for a long awful commute in the winter because they will never close. Oh also be excited for the day you drive from Reed City to Cadillac to take the class because you can't miss any more time... You get all the way in and the instructor cancelled class due to weather. Instead of maybe letting people know a few hours in advance he let us know about 15 minutes in advance. Be prepared to have random religious people passing out Bible's or Watch Tower magazines in between classes or when you are in your car trying to get a quick break. Please note you have to take a common sense course too where they explain you can not wear pajamas to an interview or have emails with sexy or 69 in it... Beyond a waste of money and time."
"Baker College is a great place to learn and obtain a degree, but the new housing department does not follow by their own rules. They do not protect their students from violence such as a taser, instead they say learn to get along. They violate the student's privacy by going through all drawers and closets during inspection without having a cause to do so. They expected our son to be the dorm maid after a failed room inspection, yet it wasn't his mess. We asked what the out process was for moving out of the dorms. We never got a response, instead they asked our son to sign a paper, never really informing him what it was about. 3 hours later he was told he had 5 min to move out or his things would be in the snow. Our son is NOT a trouble kid, gets good grades, cleans up after himself and gets stuck in a dorm room with a bunch of trouble kids and he is the one forced out by the school not following procedures. I sent an email to the President, Dean, and Director of housing an did not get a response as to why our son was treated as if he was a criminal or had done something wrong. After this last term at least 8 other people have moved out of the dorms due to the way they run them. The housing is not worth the money when you have to deal with this kind of treatment."
