About the Business

Ohio Theatre

The Ohio Theatre, located at 39 East State Street in Columbus, Ohio, is a historic institution that hosts a wide range of performances throughout the year. From classical music to modern dance, this 2,791-seat venue welcomes some of the world's best artists to its stage. The stunning Spanish-Baroque architecture, including a 21-foot-high chandelier, adds to the grandeur of any event held at the Ohio Theatre.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of performances, from family-friendly traditions to hot concerts featuring renowned artists such as Carole King, Yo-Yo Ma, and Lyle Lovett. With over 100 performances annually, the Ohio Theatre is one of the busiest performing arts facilities in the state.

Originally opened in 1928 as a movie house, the Ohio Theatre has a rich history of hosting top performers from vaudeville acts to live orchestra performances. The venue was nearly demolished in the 1960s due to suburbanization, but a successful "Save the Ohio" campaign led to its restoration and preservation by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA).

Today, the Ohio Theatre is home to the Columbus Symphony, BalletMet, and Broadway in Columbus, as well as hosting a variety of touring artists and shows. Audiences can experience world-class performing arts right in the heart of Columbus, making every visit to the Ohio Theatre an unforgettable event.

"Beautiful place. Employees are very courteous and helpful. Seats are tight! Like no leg room. And I'm only 5'4. My poor husband was so cramped. That would be my only complaint...it's so hard to sit through a long show being uncomfortable. But, I'm aware a lot of the old theaters are that way. It's something to take into consideration though."

"This place is beautiful! The carvings and design is amazing. All the seating is wonderful no matter the location. Tonight I'm mid center for the Christmas Carol play. They serve snacks and drinks here. I definitely recommend coming here especially for this play. It's only the weekend after Thanksgiving and maybe one more day before Christmas. It really gets you into the Christmas spirit."
