"This is a new review but our unfathomable journey began with Bill Foster, owner of Ohio Swims / American Construction / American Pools & Fountain in May of 2019 with a July signing . Bill promised a May 2020 completion. We cut ties in Jan 23 for failure to respond to fix open quality issues from installation & failed inspections items despite numerous requests. We also never had a final walk through despite formal requests and communication of open issues. Bill Foster simply never came back again and wrote us off. Digging began in Jan 20 and the pool poured by April 2020. From here, the gunite shell sat for a year until April 201. A large retaining wall was built improperly (which ended up failing - they DID fix this). We could actually swim by June 2021; almost two years from signing. We received our metal fence (never grounded!) in August 2021 & coping cover for exposed pool cover in Sept 2021. Note : We realize this occurred in COVID but does not excuse the lies, the extreme disorganization, & lack of communication. Why write this review now? We are now paying and fixing for all open items. To begin, we never really had a Project Manager. We had our first one over a year from starting for a short time. He left, and so did the next and so on. They all fully agreed the items needed to be fixed. They were not allowed to make any decisions and had to get approval from Bill. Ultimately, from day one, we were forced to be our own project managers. No accurate designs were ever followed for an extended period! We almost had our pool dug in the neighbor's yard. We almost had our whole second tier deck torn off. When we were getting tile installed, the crew hung out for days as the office never even ordered it. I only discovered this by calling the tile company! They had the wrong plaster color delivered and thank goodness I was home and caught it in time. They forgot plumbing lines and had to dig up everything again. They forgot the gas line and has to dig up everything again. We had to catch so many errors. It was one thing after another. This is only a snapshot. The level of audacity and disorganization is still shocking today. Today, we are fixing what Bill Foster and company left us with. We need new steps due to failed inspection of city code as they are a tripping hazard, the coping cover lid was broken at install and use orange comes around it due to severity. This is being fixed in the spring. Our grout has huge gaps in between the tile since install so we now will finally re-grout. We have loose coping stone & grout chunked out instantly between these stones. These repairs are being done now. The plaster was put on too light and concrete showing through in areas. We still have a leak somewhere. Despite everything, we do considerate ourselves fortunate to have a pool. We understand others are not as fortunate and waiting longer or never reached a point to swim. Why did we hire Bill Foster? We thought we were hiring a turn key premium operation. We were misled from day one. If only their BBB had been revoked in 2019 as it is today. We would have steered clear. . In closing, this review is a warning for all. The other negative reviews are very real. Please save yourself the immense stress and potential loss of money! A large portion of their positive reviews are from friends, family and current employees . Who we trusted and hired was a complete opposite from their portrayed image . Our experience was the most unorganized, dysfunctional, unethical company; a company who knowingly made false promises , one who won't return calls despite all efforts and one who forces the customer to beg and plead for months on end with no resolve. The stress and agony was very real when you think of the money spent to be treated this way. As I said, we do have a new pool but also one which looks it could be over ten years old. From a distance it looks nice!!! Please do your research!!!"

"My friend had so much undue stress working with this company. A lot of delays and unkept promises. Should have been an exciting addition to their home. Instead, it nearly cost them their marriage."

"ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HIRE !!!! Poor quality of workmanship, missed deadlines, & poor communication just to name a few. The Great Home & Garden Show at the IX Center is in early February - a great place to look at what other company’s have to offer. If American has a booth there - walk on by. DO NOT HIRE !!!!"

"Hands down, the worst company that I ever had the mispleasure to deal with. Our basic project is currently unfinished, and it is looking like it will be a total of 4 years to complete. Erica and Bill's communication and professionalism is abysmal. Every aspect of this company is 1 star. You can do much better."
