"I think Lisa had good intentions but I did not feel compassion or warmth from her. I went in without any guards up, and without planning it out, and I thought we would be able to flow naturally together, but now I realize that in the first few sessions I should be interviewing the therapist as well before opening my heart in order to see if we are a good fit. I just assumed that any therapist would be able to meet me there in the moment. It is a good idea to interview your therapist before opening your heart -do not assume that a therapist knows more than you do, or that their version of "reality" is the "correct" version. We all have different ways of perceiving the world, and we all have different gifts. Believe in yourself and be picky when choosing a therapist. I am grateful to have found a therapist (not connected with this place) who does not judge me and allows me to be myself. With Lisa I experienced much judgement and coldness. I could tell Lisa thought I was crazy. We wouldn't be seeing each other for another month and I was filled with insecurity from her judgements. As I was leaving, I voiced my concerns and she looked at me as if I was pathetic and she very condescendingly said "Don't do that." After our session I felt emotionally traumatized by opening up and being so harshly judged. I walked home crying, I felt emotionally violated. I am thankful for many wonderful friends who helped me to see my worth after that terrible experience. Also grateful that the next therapist I tried (with no connection to this place) saw me as a person and saw my strengths and said she would never think I am crazy or judge me. Because of this, I had made so much emotional growth, cultivated confidence and no longer see my therapist because of the self-trust I have developed. If I would have stayed with Marriage & Family Therapy Associates I may have been in a much worse place emotionally with lower self esteem. Lisa kept mentioning that she is connected with her emotions, but I found her emotional intelligence to be low. It is important to go to a therapist who holds a safe space of no judgement and does not project superiority. Many times, all we need is someone to witness us without shaming us -someone who allows our own wisdom to come through, by being a compassionate presence."
"Amazing Counselor's and staff!!"
