"Spoke with their preparer(lady) last week. Inquired as to pricing. Her response was "$200-350 depending on forms but first time customers get half price. Came back yesterday 3/27/23 based on her information. Reminded her we had spoken with her last week. At no time during her prep did she mention what she had said last week. There are no unusual things about my taxes just standard deductions. She informed me $577 and I said minus 50 percent correct? Oh no they told me this morning the fine print says up to half best they will let me do it $200 off. Repeated you said half off response was "well I didn't read fine print" so it's $377. That was first issue. When she completed the forms she went over what we had to pay. She was showing we owed a significant amount to our State. We have never had to pay our State. I'm looking over the form she had put our defined benefit pensions as taxable income which it is not in our State. In pointing it out she said my boss(wherever he was as she was at a stand alone) says it is correct. Left went home to review everything and opened the packet they gave us only to find the form for the State was not there. Other information was very minimal. We again drove back to request the detailed state form. Looking at the state form appeared the problem was she had put in our defined benefit pensions as taxable. She called her boss and he told her we were wrong. They're saying it has to be generated from our state. Since leaving we have researched and called our State. We are in fact correct. Defined benefit pensions are not taxable no matter what state they are generated from. Therefore we will submit the notice of cancellation today. My concern is how many other retirees in our State have been the subject of misinformation by them."
