"I tried to discuss this matter personally with the owner but it appears, I will not receive a response unless I share my concerns publicly. Good afternoon, Karen, I am reaching out to you to f/u re: our dog's stay at your facility from 10/10-10/16, in which Maggie required emergency medical attention on 10/15 for an injury. On Friday, 10/20, I had the opportunity to speak directly with the attending veterinarian who treated Maggie, to gain a more clear understanding of what she observed and her determinations of the injury. This was important to me because it has been incredibly challenging for me and my family to understand how you determined an "old wound" meant that Maggie had an injury prior to her stay at your facility that caused this medical emergency. The doctor described her summary and what she observed based on her medical expertise. She clarified for me that her determination of an older injury meant that it was likely that the injury did not occur within 24 hours due to the pus that had developed into the tissue. I shared with her that she had been attending your daycare and boarding for 5 days by the time she came in for medical attention. The doctor shared that while we do not have evidence of what caused the injury, that it "definitely could have happened within that 5 day window". She also agreed that as attentive dog owners to 1 dog, my husband and I would have probably been aware of an injury worsening on her body. Having gained this further information, I believe that it is incredibly likely some sort of injury occurred while under your care and your staff did not notice it until later. However, I recognize that I do not hold evidence to confirm this. I fully understand and recognize that dog altercations and/or injuries is a present risk at a dog daycare and I would expect that if an unfortunate event occurred, the owner and staff would be able to navigate an honest and open discussion about what could have happened to my dog, regardless of whether someone saw this incident or not. What disappoints and frustrates me most is that after you received a discharge summary from the vet, your communication to me was focused on informing me that this was "an old wound" and that your assumption is to not take any potential accountability. You quickly informed me it was determined to be an old wound and promptly charged me with the full vet bill and the boarding stay. And honestly, I would expect a business such as yours to at least call to check in to see how my dog is healing. I am incredibly disappointed in how this issue was handled; I do not feel confident that you went back through and reviewed your cameras after you determined it did not occur at your facility, and I am no longer comfortable returning my dog to your business nor will I recommend your business to family and friends. My hope is that for any current or future customers of yours that experience a similar situation while their dog is in your care, that you are more open, honest, and willing to communicate with the family about what realistically could have occurred so that the family is able to trust your ability to keep their dogs safe and your ability to acknowledge accountability.
