"My puppy Rue died Tuesday, the morning after her spay. I brought Rue to Park Avenue Animal Hospital a couple of weeks ago to get her checked out to see if she would be good to go for a spay, a vet tech told me she would just need a stool check and that she’d be spayed by Dr. Tara. Last Friday, I brought a sample of her stool and wasn’t greeted nicely by Becky, but was trying to remain positive. On Monday I dropped her off at 8:30am and was told we’d get a call with her pick-up time later in the day. I called around 11:30am because leaving Rue made me feel anxious and I needed to know how she was. Makayla answered the phone and when I asked how Rue was doing she said she had no idea and that animals wouldn’t even be spayed until the afternoon. I apologized for my persistence and said that I cared a lot about Rue and have never gone through this and she said Rue would be fine and that she has two cats of her own. At 2:30pm I was told that Rue was doing well and she would be ready for pick up at 4:30pm. At around 4:30pm, the vet tech Kassie brought Rue out and tried demonstrating how to lift her into the car and as she was picking Rue up, she dropped Rue into the car and Rue let out an awful noise. Kassie said that Rue was fine and gave us the after-care paper. Rue was acting lethargic and breathing heavily which weren’t things I was told to look out for. I called the morning of and spoke to Becky about how Rue wasn’t eating and barely drinking to which she responded by asking how I’d feel if I had a hysterectomy and how I wouldn’t want to eat either if I was Rue. I followed up by mentioning Rue’s breathing and how I was concerned and she said that there shouldn’t be any issues since they performed multiple checks before and after surgery, but that she’ll ask the vet and call back and if she doesn’t call before 1:30pm that she’d get to me after 2:30pm. I got a call back maybe 30 minutes after saying that she got pain meds prescribed from Dr. Tara for Rue and my mom went to get them when I stayed with Rue. Within the next hour Rue died next to me and we rushed her to the vet but it was too late. I wonder if there’s a chance she’d be here if she and I were treated with more respect. After asking questions, we were informed that Dr. Ricky performed Rue’s surgery, which was something that I was not told beforehand nor did I meet with him, and he left at 3pm, 30 minutes after Rue’s operation. I wonder if Rue was brought in after Kassie dropped her for a check-up, if I was given better after-care instructions, if I was given more Emergency Vet information, if I was told to bring her in after I let Becky know I thought she was breathing irregularly, and if I never brought her to this vet in the first place, that she would still be here next to me. Rue means the world to me and now she’ll be given to me in a box next week. Thank you Dr. Ricky for apologizing and giving us clay prints of her paw, some of her hair, prints of her paw and nose, taking care of her cremation, and refunding the spay costs, but nothing amounts to Rue. She was taken way too soon. I wish I had longer than a year and 2 months with her. My heart is broken without her. I’ve attached the after-care instructions so you can see what I was given as well as a few pictures of Rue."
