Toku Modern Asian

"Toku is a trendy, upscale Japanese restaurant located in the Aventura Mall. The menu consists of top-of-the-line modern Japanese items. We arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled reservation time. Due to our early arrival, the hostess sat us in the impressive, sultry, lowly lit Asian decor inspired lounge/bar area. We were quickly greeted by a server who took our drink orders. The drinks were delicious and served in a timely manner. 15 minutes later the hostess sat us down at our table, and we ordered a few delicious specialty cocktails. The drinks came within a reasonable time. The menu offers an extensive variety of Asian fusion cuisine, including Peking duck, noodle bowls and assorted sushi, sashimi and rolls. We then ordered our appetizers and entrees. While ordering we were disappointed to find there were limited vegetarian options. We also discovered they had Tofu, but it was not shown on the menu. For my appetizer I got the Crispy Rice Tuna, which was fantastic. After we finished, we were ready for our entrees, which took quite a while and came at different times. The food was tastefully presented and very good. Our entrees came out at different times, with the sushi coming out before everything else. We ordered an assortment of sushi and sushi rolls, Peking duck, vegetable fried rice, and braised short ribs. The food was consistently good but not something you couldn't find elsewhere at another Japanese-style restaurant. The restaurant was very busy with a frenetic feel with servers running everywhere. While eating our entrees, the server only came around after eating. We did ask for water and another round of drinks and they were served quickly. The deserts we ordered were mochi and a brownie sundae. Both were adequate. Overall, the service was friendly, but average and should have been better for an upscale restaurant. The food was good, but not amazing. The restaurant had a very cool vibe with great music, but was loud and hard to speak to others unless you aided your voice. The outside dining area seemed more quiet with gas lit heat lamps to set the atmosphere. the menu had limited vegetarian options with some not even listed on the menu, the atmosphere was alright and the food was a bit overpriced."

"Super fun place to go share some food and great vibe. Service was impeccable, always around when needed without being intrusive. Food came out quick and was delicious, and we tried items from all over the menu. I highly recommend the sake and Asian pear starter. Highly recommend!"

"First time eating here. We ordered the lobster risotto and the calamari as appetizers. The lobster risotto was fair, I didn’t like the beans in it so I picked them out. My husband enjoyed it. The calamari was good. I had a Passionfruit Margarita which was good. I had the King Crab roll and my husband had the skirt steak. The steak was delicious, it had good flavor to it. Our server Mitchell was very friendly, efficient and professional."
