"Honestly, pretty disappointed that I won’t be coming back. Everyone at this office have been so friendly and welcoming, except Ms. Marshall. While no one ENJOYS a trip to the OBGYN, I had a lot of questions and wanted to learn about pregnancy, so I was understandably excited to talk to her. After voicing my hopes to starting a family after losing over 100lbs, yet still being over weight, she effectively crushed my dreams. While I am aware that there is an increased risk with obese pregnancy, she came off as hurtful, judgmental and insensitive during my recent visit. She seemed horrified that I would be okay with getting pregnant while my BMI was so high- even though I have lost a lot of weight, I’m healthy and in good physical shape. She pressed me not to even attempt pregnancy. It would have been understandable to list the risks and realistic issues that could result and assure a patient that these will require increased monitoring. I have done the research, and understand these, but also recognize that maternal age is a factor as well and was trying to balance my risks. When I voiced this, it felt like she blew off my concerns which only hurt me more. I felt I couldn’t ask any more questions and honestly wanted to flee. I left the office with my lifelong dreams of being a mother at my feet and sobbing- to which she answered, “I didn’t mean to make you cry.” She did state that if I “accidentally” got pregnant, that the office would still see me, even if I’m still over the recommended weight… As someone who has been overweight her entire life, I’ve been told that I’m unhealthy or overweight by doctors many many times, but I have never felt so harshly dealt with. Still heartbroken and reeling, trying to find my path, and a new doctor. If you’re overweight, I recommend you steer clear."
