About the Business

Sydonie Mansion

Sydonie Mansion, located at 5538 Sydonie Drive in Mount Dora, Florida, is a historic tourist attraction that dates back to 1883. Renowned architect Grosvenor Atterbury remodeled the mansion in 1903, making it one of the most significant residential structures in all of Florida. With 42 rooms and over 22,000 square feet, Sydonie showcases exquisite craftsmanship and unique architecture from a bygone era.

Originally built as the winter retreat for James Laughlin, owner of J&L Steel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Sydonie was inspired by Mediterranean Revival and Asian styles, modeled after the Alhambra Castle in Spain. The vast estate once spanned 9000 acres and featured sculptured gardens, citrus groves, a dairy farm, a power plant, and even a bowling alley.

Today, Sydonie Mansion serves as a stunning wedding and event venue, and offers historic tours for visitors to explore its rich history and grandeur. Don't miss the opportunity to experience the timeless beauty and elegance of Sydonie Mansion in Mount Dora.

"Breathtaking. Beautiful. Well maintained. It's a great venue for a wedding. It even has natural bug spray that gets sprayed automatically around the property!"

"Our first tour of Sydonie Mansion was when they first brought it and just had begun the work needed. Visited a second time today for a Christmas Tour, wow, stunning. The garden is beautiful and the rooms are all furnished so well. The owner has an artist's eye and a determination to do what's best for a restoration."

"Did a group tour and lunch visit. The mansion was beautiful and the ground gorgeous. The home was artfully decorated for Christmas. The interior of the home is absolutely amazing. Fortunately, no interior photos, except the dining room, are allowed, so you must go see for yourself!!! The owners have put in a lot of hard work bringing the home back into shape. They have done a wonderful job. The luncheon served was very tasty and possibly one of the best catered (again by owners/family) meals I've had on any of our group tours. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and would be an excellent place for weddings or other gatherings. Plenty of parking as well. Everyone was super nice and knowledgeable about the property. Would definitely go back!"

"Absolutely amazing old Florida mansion! Hosted by devoted historic preservation family! I lived at this place from 1974 to 1978 at a boarding school named Hampton DuBose Academy. This place looks better than it ever has since the beginning! Highly recommend, you can see this you will not be disappointed with this gem of a fine!"
