"Dr Smolen is either highly unethical, incredibly sloppy, or both. I saw him in August 2018 after being referred for a competency evaluation. I had been suffering from depression for the previous 2 years which was primarily due to circumstances. At the time of my evaluation, I had begun improving because my circumstances changed but that was short-lived due to Smolen’s false report of me. First, he used an alcohol diagnostic questionnaire inappropriately. Then he either twisted the words of collateral sources or simply lied and said he never spoke with people who supported my claim that I’m not an alcoholic. The report itself was an abomination to read with more incorrect than correct information. Copy and pasting was obvious since an entire section didn’t make any sense because of it. He then made a diagnosis of severe alcohol use disorder which was not supported based on the DSM-V. And somewhere in all of that he tells me, “You’re taking up too much of my time.” Ultimately he recommends I go to residential rehab and what do you know...the facility he works at gets recommended to me! No one in my personal or professional life supported the diagnosis. I have no history of DUI or alcohol related legal troubles. Yet I was forced into rehab and spent my entire life savings because of this man’s unethical behavior and incompetency. I’m still fighting it to this day!! I absolutely look forward to one day filing a lawsuit against Dr Smolen. He is not fit to call himself a healer."
