"I live in the neighborhood! My daughter just handed me a barbecue chicken and red beans and rice plus cabbage dinner! I don’t know WHY we keep wasting our money at this establishment! This red beans and rice has NO FLAVOR! Just color! The cabbage is halfed cooked! THE CHICKEN SHOULD BE CALLED BLACKENED CHICKEN BECAUSE OF HOW BURNT IT IS! I’ve complained to them before with no results! I don’t know how they have a 4.3 rating! The food always tastes the SAME‼️ It’s hard supporting a Black business when the food quality is poor! THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME RECEIVING LASKLUSTER FOOD FROM SYLVIA’S‼️ NO MAS‼️"

"It's always the small little spots that have some of the best food. I would drive by this place so many times and see the smoker going which caught my attention. I finally tried this Jamaican spot today. I'm so glad I did. It was excellent! I tried their jerk chicken and it was delicious! Especially their spicy jerk sauce! The rice, peas and their plantains were on point too! I can't wait to go back and try their other entrees. If you love Jamaican food. Hit them up!"

"My go-to spot for jerk chicken. Fast service, fresh food, $6 lunch special is the go to. Get the mild sauce, I love this place!"

"Sylvia's Cafe is truly a hidden gem in the city! I have the $6 Lunch Special whenever I'm in the area. Chicken is right off the grill, a side of cabbage or peas, rice and beans, plus a free soda. A delicious home style meal, great portion size, great service, all for a beyond reasonable price!"

"Sylvia's was overall a nice experience. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. I ordered a Fried Porkchop lunch, with Rice and Peas, and Steamed Cabbage. I also ordered a side of Collard Greens. The Pork Chop was fried perfectly, maintaining its moisture and tenderness, and it was nicely seasoned. It was a thin cut and so good that I wished there were two. But, I had ordered the lunch sized plate. Next time it will be a dinner plate with two! The cabbage was good but, for my personal preference it had a lot going on with added red peppers and herbs/seasonings. I loved the texture but, prefer just salt and pepper. The Collard Greens were good, though of the healthier cooked version, meaning sans fat and oil. The rice was very good. Portions were great for the $6.99 lunch price. The side of Collard Greens was $2.99. It is very hard these days to find a side order of anything under $5, especially for the quantity given. That all being said, I would still glady return and try other menu items. I have a feeling the BBQ is delicious!"
