"BEWARE: Summary: If you like burning your money, paying secret debts, & surprise letters from collections agencies, then UM Lennar may be the place for you. However, if you want trustworthy medical care & honest payments, I suggest you look elsewhere. I have had 2 miserable experiences with UM Lennar in 2 different departments. Problem #1: Sports medicine & hand injury. In-house service seemed good; I paid my copay up front, was seen quickly by the doctor & got treatment for my injury. After this, they said “Would you like a wrist brace?” To which I said, “That’s okay, I have one at home,” & they replied, “We can give you one to wear until you get home.” I said, “Okay, I guess so.” They came in, gave me a little cloth & plastic wrist brace, I put it on, & went home. 6 months later, I get a letter from a collection agency saying that I owe UM Lennar over $200 for the wrist brace! This brace can be purchased for $25 at CVS! The UM staff did not say “would you like to purchase a new wrist brace for $200?” They said, “We can give you one.” Those are two very different sentences! I argued that it was unfair for them to charge me for it because they did not tell me a cost, I already had one, & I never would have agreed to that price. After over 3 months of hour-long phone calls with insurance, UM Lennar, & the collection agency, I was finally able to get the charge removed. Problem #2: Need X-rays for neck pain I’ve been suffering for years. After scheduling my appt 2 months in advance, I am told at my appt that I have a $100 x-ray copay with Cigna SureFit insurance. I had them double check my insurance due to the previous issue with the hand injury charges. I then pay my $100, do the x-rays, and walk out. I ask how to get my results & info and they say I’ll get a message in the online system. The entire visit was maybe 20 minutes. Weeks later, I get a message saying, “x-rays normal,” & nothing else; no information from a doctor, no follow-up, no write-up from the x-ray specialist, & no images of the x-rays. My neck still hurts! A month later, I get a bill from UM for another $160! They have decided that a 20-minute visit & 3 photos was apparently valued at a comical $1150, & I should be happy that my insurance paid most of it, and I “only” owe them $160! I contacted UM Lennar & told them I had asked about the payments & was assured my $100 copay covered my x-rays. They essentially said, “Too bad, you owe more. Call your insurance.” I call Cigna & ask about the error. They tell me Cigna SureFit does NOT have a copay for X-ray services & I should have been charged differently up front. However, there is a Cigna OAP plan with $100 x-ray copay. This means UM Lennar used the wrong insurance plan & charged me as if I had different insurance. They want me to pay for their error. We had an agreement on the day & I completed my obligations. I asked for a service, you told me a cost, I paid the cost, I received the service. The transaction is over. To make matters worse, I haven’t even neither seen the x-rays nor spoken to a doctor about my lingering pain! They want me to pay an extra $160 for something that may not even exist & without any help to relieve my pain! UM Lennar made a mistake. So, eat the cost of your mistake & don’t let it happen in the future. I told them “If I get x-rays in the future, I will be aware of this cost & pay up front. However, this transaction has ended. I will not be liable for an error made by your company.” Example: I go to a car wash & they say it’s $20 to wash my car. I pay $20, they wash my car. That’s it! Could you imagine if the car wash company called me a month later and said “actually, we were supposed to charge you $50 for that wash because you drive a blue car. Washing blue cars costs twice as much. Also, if you don’t pay the extra $30 for your blue car, we will send your debt to collections!” That would be absurd! But this is what is happening with UM Lennar. This issue remains unresolved."
