"Both of my children have gone here, my oldest for three years. I’ve hung in there thinking that they deserved a chance to get it together because it’s a new school. I won’t be hanging in there any longer. The beginning of this year, they completely neglected to put my kids on their after care bus, and I had no idea until the after care called to see why they weren’t at school. Then, an office staff member proceeded to blame my 7 year old and blatantly insult her. “I have kindergarteners that answer when their name is called.” Well I got passed that and moved on. Throughout the year though I would learn of school events very last minute. Spirit weeks and such. My kids can’t participate if I don’t have time to get what they need. Not everyone is a stay at home parent with time to do this stuff last minute. I also received almost no communication on what’s going on in class or homework assignments, or how much child is doing in class but continually heard from my daughter that she was kept out of recess for not finishing her school work. There are multiple apps plus email to keep in touch with the school, which is hard to keep track of and is extremely unorganized. I’ve sent messages and received no reply, wrote notes in my kids agenda and received no answer. I’ve also had to pick my daughter up twice and keep her out of school all week. The office “nurse” says she has a fever and stomach ache. Both times she was picked up we took her temperature and her “fever” was exactly 99.4, a normal body temperature for a 5 year old. She is not sick. She come home and jumps and plays and laughs and knows very well that she got away with something. When I tried to tell the “nurse” that I was unable to pick her up she uses scare tactics. “Do I have your permission to call 911 if she starts seizing? It will be at your expense.” She says. I CAN NOT REITERATE ENOUGH, MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT EVEN SICK. “Her temperature is just RISING”. No ma’am, her temperature is 99.4, check your equipment. They also called my e. Husband, who is not her father, and was supposed to be removed from their emergency contact records or year and a half ago. When I confronted her about that she said that his name was not on the emergency contact list but his number was. She proceeded to tell me that I needed to go on my parent dashboard to remove him entirely from the emergency contact list. Nobody said anything to me about this a year and a half ago. I went onto the website both from my phone and from a laptop to do so I logged into my parent dashboard and went to click on the emergency contact link but it directs me to the intent to return page. In fact, all of the links on that portion of the website did. So now I cannot remove my ex husband from their records. In addition to all of this, the school Does a poor job of money management. They had a giant fundraiser the beginning of the school year and spent what they said was $12,000 on the outdoor movie theater screen, but every single week I am asked to bring in copy paper wet wipes and pencils and erasers. It seems to me that basic school supply needs should be met before buying extravagant items that will be rarely used. Like boats."
"My son has attended this school from day one of it opening its door. Yes they have had challenges but each year gets better and better. Any time I have had an issue I have beed able to communicate with the Principal, assistant Principal, additional staff and of course his teachers. The staff knows all the children greets them by name, always giving words of encouragement. They are amazing and I must admit my child was not an easy child to deal with when he first started at this school. I actually thought he would get kicked out but no they worked with him Mr. Taylor sat with him encouraged him and so did other staff member along with his teachers. Now my son is a star student from his behavior to his grades all because they didn't give up on him, they worked with him gave him tools to better himself and his grades. Mrs Archer his 2nd grade teacher and Mrs Moore now 3rd grade teachers are AMAZING. I went to volunteer at his school and I walked up on a conversation that he was having with the front desk staff . She was saying how proud she was of him and how much he had improved. That made me super proud to have chosen Renaissance At Crown Point for my child. I feel that negative comments are truly irrelevant and I have only heard of 2 fights at this school and from my knowledge they were handled professionally. This school does not tolerate bullying #FACT# JUST Go spend sometime at the school, make random pop ups as I do ,to see whats really happening. The teachers and staff ARE amazing. My 2 grandchildren now attend this school and they love it and everyone there. Thank you My Taylor and staff for all that you do for our children."
"Disclaimer notice: I am not writing this because I was asked to nor am I writing this to make the school look good in the public's eye. These are my own experiences and opinions so please don't say this is a fake review because I'm not about childish games. So let's start... I'm going to say a few words about the negative comments. My daughter goes here this is her second yea She loves it, her teacher is amazing and she has made a lot of friends. She has issues that the teacher's help her with a lot. She has improved a lot in the two school years she has been here. I love the teacher's and the staff they are very friendly and understanding. My wife is also holds a position in the PTC and she loves it, has no complaints and is very friendly with everyone. Now, to the people who say negative things. If you notify the school ahead of time that your kid needs to be picked up for whatever reason then yes, you can pick up your child but if you don't, well you simply can't and the staff actually does do work in the front office. They don't sit around and do nothing because they would lose their job. Plus, if they do let you pick up your child without notifying them ahead of time they get in trouble so it's best to let them know days or week's in advanced if your child needs to be picked up early. Second, they do notify everyone of things that are happening not just by emails but also Facebook. They literally say at the parent teacher meeting for the beginning of the school year before the first day of school and at every meeting during the school year that if you haven't do so add their Facebook and check it regularly. Third and final part, they do give homework and projects. Just not every teacher gives out projects as much as other teacher's. As far as the homework is concerned homework is done online through clever and the teacher's give out a sheet every week that details what they are working on and specifies how much homework they need to do on clever each week for each subject. Again this goes out to the negative comments and future negative comments. Please just pay attention to what's really going on outside your life and if your child says they don't have homework, talk to his teacher. Also to the comments that say they experienced racism... My wife and daughter is black and the staff is multi racial so please keep race out of it."
"Do not put your child in Renaissance!! My niece attends there (First year). Today my mother experienced a racial discrimination in the office today with a fellow staff member. She went to go pick up my niece early around 2:25 because she was called to pick her up at the last minute and she had a doctors appointment. Her and another African American guy was at the door of the school and they wouldn't buzz them in. But they had just buzzed another parent just before them. After my mother was finally buzzed in, she told them her situation. That is when the staff member told her that the office was close and she had to wait until school was over. She had her identification in hand and they made her walk all the way back to the car to get the car tag. While she was going to the car getting the car tag, another parent was buzzed in with no problem! after her! and she needed to pick her child up early too.The other parent didn't have to go back to her car to get the tag and the office members were friendly with her.I wouldn't refer this school to anyone. It hurts my mother because she never experienced that problem before."
"i love this school! The staff and teachers are some of the most caring people I've had the pleasure of dealing with, since my kid started school! Whether it's a note or text saying how proud they were of him that day or one informing me that he needs to work on correcting a behaviour; they care about the development of my son, and that means the world to me!"
