"First of all, let me say what a beautiful facility this is. I have never been and was quite impressed. Very clean and spacious. I was there to just donate some blankets and pillows. I was greeted by a courteous young man who helped take the bags. I'm glad I didn't have a lot of time to look at any animals because I would have wanted to take some home!"

"Douglas county animal shelter might be the laziest when it comes to helping people in need find resources to help relocate pets. I went there and they told me they don’t except pets which is understandable so they gave me a flyer for different cat rescues. I called ever single last one, only to end up with nothing. None of the phone numbers went to anyone and when I brought that to their attention they could care less. What was also weird was I explained to them that this wasn’t even my cat, I literally only took him in because it was either that or the streets because the original owner didn’t want him and again Douglas county doesn’t take pets,and I barely even got a response back almost as if no one cared.It really sadness me that people have to jump through so many hoops in order to get the help they need for them and animals/pet. I hope at least you all can do better with having reliable resources."

"My husband and I adopted a dog for this shelter a few months ago. The staff are so kind and helpful. Everyone working here does their best to help you however they can. All the employees care for the animals greatly, and you can tell that they take pride in helping them! All the animals here seem to be well taken care of as well!"

"Got my cat as a kitten from here this past summer. Good services and good facility; however, stray kittens are kept and fed outside (numbers of 10+) which is unacceptable. When I brought this to their attention they said they know they’re out there and feed them. I get not having room or funding for these cats, but this shelter is actively contributing to the invasive cat population by not relocating these cats (the same issue they’re trying to help with). Also, while the workers are personable, some were quite dismissive with any questions I had pertaining to my cat. I was met with “well, most the cats we get are strays so we don’t keep information.” Like?? It just seems a little careless? Last thing is, when I got my cat, she was throwing up quite commonly which was quickly fixed with another (better) dewormers from the vet (recommend this). I appreciate what shelters do for the community, hence a 3 star, and people should buy these pets from shelters to save them as there are definitely worse shelters out there… but this shelter can do/try a little bit better."

"Great experience. I received all three of my dogs from here. They have grown since I've had them."
